I think Langvile finally realized that his side has been thoroughly discredited and the task he faces now is insurmountable.

After all how can one explain the mounting evidence that Bush deceived the world, that the White House is living in denial of what is going on in Iraq, the casualties keep coming, the government is spending like a drunken sailor.
