With it being draft night I thought I'd get the thread going....

... Now for my rant.

How could BC not draft Drummond? For the first time the Raptors had the chance to draft a legit big-man and they go and opt for a dime-a-dozen, 6'7, athletic small-forward. Face-palm

Terrence Ross when Drummond was available... I guess we're still expecting Bargs to be that dominant small forward at PF.
And Colangelo was unable to trade down..

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Draft the best available player; never for need. The Hornets did better two picks later.

Not sold on Rivers, he has never shown interest in passing or even seeing his teammates when he has the ball.
They could have taken Drummond and traded him and someone like Ed Davis to Houston for Lowry and the 12th pick.

If you knew you were going to take Ross, why wouldn't you trade the pick for a player and say the number 13 or 14 pick. My guess is he would have been available at that point.
This guy is a toothpick at 190 lbs. He has to bulk up fast. He will be getting tutored by Casey big time as I can't see where he does much on defense.

IN BC's defense, a lot of people weren't sure about his pick last year either and Jonas is coming with great press clippings, lets hope he lives up to them.

That would have been better. 6'7, 195 lb Small Forwards are everywhere (e.g DeRozan, Moon)

Ya, but last year's draft was not as deep, so I have no problem drafting 'size with potential'. As long as he plays 'big', unlike Bargnani, then that would be okay. But, imagine a lineup with Jonas at the 5, Drummond at 4, and Bargnani at the 3 (where they should have developed him, but that ship has likely sailed). Drummond's interior pressence will aide Bargnani's inability to hold faster 3s from driving.

Terrence's strengths coming into the league are actually shooting and defense...

I'm wondering how relieved the players were when Toronto picked and their name wasn't called... Welcome to the team that hasn't been good and has no plan for being good in forever. It's like going to Sacramento.

Drummond is big but no offense. Maybe in a few years with some solid coaching he'll be getting some useful pt.

Rivers has potential but wouldn't help the raps for a couple years.

The raps need a shooter, have for years, so that pick makes sense (at least considering that everyone else left on the board is as much of a gamble. A guy who could come off the bench and hit some shots isn't a bad idea.

Only other guy I was tempted by was Lamb but he really was a gamble. More upside but more risk.

I see your points, but shooters can be found more easily than size.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic have selected St. Bonaventure power forward Andrew Nicholson with the 19th pick in the NBA draft.

A Mississauga, Ont., native, the six-foot-nine Nicholson played four seasons at St. Bonaventure and finished as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as a senior. He averaged 18.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in his final college season.

He also fits the mould of the Magic's outside shooting big men, having shot 43 per cent from the 3-point line last season as well.

Yeah a bit surprised with the pick of Terrence Ross but I am not a major college bball fan.

Looking at his stats in two years of college and his phyisical attributes I wasn't overly impressed.

Agree that they should have traded down and could probably have still drafted TR.

I think Drummond has some pluses but I guess with Bargs, Davis, Johnson and Jonas the Raps were happy to work with what they have? I like someone's suggestion to draft Drummond, trade off Davis and hope that TR is still on the board.

IMHO, Davis has not shown much at all yet and Johnson is not a long-term solution. Drummond is more athletically gifted than both.

Why ? He has a Dwight Howard type of body already and athletic ability and only avg 7.6 rebounds . His draft stock was sinking and people were seeing things that caused that to happen . .

On another note . In the last 2 years 5 Canadians have been drafted . Last night when the Raps had the opportunity they passed up on two Canadians go figure eh . Terrence Ross , Quincy Acy and Tomislav Zubcic are the 3 players we got for putting up with a tank season .

I don't know about Drummond simply because the development of centers is so unpredictable. It seems to me that centers turn out to be busts more often than other positions, so it's a bigger gamble.

Picking at the 8th spot the Raptors had no clear stand out pick.

The Raptors must and surely will flounder next season. Hopefully in the next few years they will luck out and can draft one real star prospect to build around. Hopefully Colangelo does not trade up to mediocrity in the off season. This team needs to really stink it up for a while.

In some pre-draft predictions, Ross was going to be taken 11th. That's not too far down from 8th. Raptors wanted someone who could shoot and defend ant that is what Ross brings to the table.
