Oh my.

I picked up an Apple 23" Cinema Display HD on eBay. Just received it and plugged it in. Now I'm viewing everything in 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. I knew it would be good - I've salivated over this display in the stores before. But Holy Smokes! This thing is BIG! I can open windows all over the place and not have them overlap. I can fire up my video editing software and see everything sans scrolling. Heck, even my porn looks better on this display.

Loving it! Makes me wonder what that new 30" monster display is like though ...

Well, it took me a while but today I finally found out what the 30" Apple LCD monitor is like.

It's freaking HUGE! The monitor I saw was displaying 2560 x 1600 and was absolutely flawless from any normal viewing angle. While this monitor is clear overkill for us mere mortals, it has obvious application for photo editing / video editing. Even for hard-core programming it would be nice to have as you can have a code window, an output window, a debugger window etc all open at pretty much full size all at the same time.

The fellow at the store told me he had sold 2 of them to one guy who had them both hooked up side by side in one continuous space. He used them for video editing.

You have to see this thing to believe it. It's overwhelming the first time you see it. But as much as it'd be neat to have a monitor like that, reality dictates that you can only look at so much screen space at once. Unless I win the lottery, I think I'll just stick with my 23".


P.S. The 30" was around $5400 including taxes.

OK - I did it. I've now upgraded from a mere 23" 1920 x 1200 display to the freaking huge 30" 2560 x 1600 display.

Maybe in another 3 years I'll be able to upgrade to a 50" monitor!

Man - I thought my 23" was big. This 30" though ... You actually have to turn your head a bit instead of just moving your eyeballs to see the corners of the screen

Yes it is... I picked up one of those shortly before xmas. Freakin awesome. No complaints at all.

I have a 27" widescreen monitor that I watch movies on in the bedroom. I used to have a TV in there, but with monitors that big, no point in having a TV and a computer. It has HDMI inputs too. Not much difference between monitors and TV's these days.
