Hello Gentlemen,

It's Asian Nicole. Carmen--Georges Bizet's famous opera April 12 to May 15, 2016 on stage at the Four Seasons Centre. My darling opera professor and I went to see the opening show last night. Carmen, one of opera's most frequently staged works, here gets an update and a geographic move. Carmen is a fascinating tale of passion, romance, and betrayal. I was so amazed by how beautiful the music was, and the opera singers were all performing very well.

Carmen is an opera in four acts by French composer Georges Bizet, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875 and was not well received, largely due to its breaking of convention and controversial main characters, which shocked and scandalized its first audiences. Bizet died suddenly after the 33rd performance, and therefore was unaware of its outstanding success in Vienna later that year, or that it would win enduring international acclaim within the next ten years. Carmen has since become one of the most popular and frequently performed operas in the classical canon; the "Habanera" from act 1 and the "Toreador Song" from act 2 are among the best known of all operatic arias.

The opera is written in the genre of opéra comique with musical numbers separated by dialogue. It is set in southern Spain and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which José kills her in a jealous rage. The depictions of proletarian life, immorality, and lawlessness, and the tragic death of the main character on stage, broke new ground in French opera and were highly controversial.

The name conjures myriad allusions: feral gypsy, sexual hedonist, fatalistic soul. This irresistible seductress enters into a love affair with a man whose consuming jealousy attempts to tame her. Underneath the erotically alluring sun-drenched setting is a chronicle of fatal conflict as duty and obsession collide.

The music of Carmen has since been widely acclaimed for brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere, and orchestration, and for the skill with which Bizet musically represented the emotions and suffering of his characters. The opera has been recorded many times since the first acoustical recording in 1908, and the story has been the subject of many screen and stage adaptations.

Thanks so much for the wonderful evening, my darling culture professor! This opera was spectacular, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Hello Gentlemen,

Carmen Monarcha is a Brazilian soprano singer. Born into an artistic family in Brazil.

When her studies in the Netherlands were complete, Monarcha returned to her native Brazil but was lured back to Europe to perform as a soloist for André Rieu 's 2003 tour and has remained with the orchestra since. A soprano, she has sung on several of André Rieu's albums and has appeared in his PBS television broadcasts in the United States, receiving particular praise for her interpretation of "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi. She has sung the "Habanera" from Carmen, also for PBS.

The "Habanera" from Carmen which she sings is one of the best and the sexiest ones IMHO. And it is so coincident that her first name is also called Carmen. I really like her voice and her look.

Enjoy the video :)
