Hello Gentlemen,

It's Asian Nicole. To celebrate being a citizen of the best country in the world, I spent some time in Kingston during the Canada Day long weekend. I took the 1000 island cruise in Gananoque near Kingston. This is an amazing tourist attraction. Wow, the weather was so beautiful which enabled me to clearly see the numerous islands.

This is a five hour cruise, including a two hour stopover at Boldt Castle. I was so excited before my departure. I was so looking forward to visiting this famous Castle for a long time.

Boldt Castle--Built With Love! At the turn of the 20th Century, George C. Boldt, the millionaire owner of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, decided to build a full sized “Rhineland” styled castle in the 1000 Islands. The castle, to be erected on Heart Island, was to be a display of his love for his wife Louise.

Beginning in 1900, the 120 room castle was modeled after 16th century European buildings and no expense was spared in its design or construction. 300 skilled artisans, craftsmen and builders were working on the site to build the 120 room, six floor castle, complete with tunnels, drawbridge, a powerhouse, gardens and a dovecote. Not a single detail was overlooked.

Hello Gentlemen,

Tragedy struck in 1904 when Louise died suddenly. The broken hearted Boldt could not imagine his “dream castle” without her, and sent a telegram to the island ordering all work to be stopped immediately. Boldt never returned to his castle on the island, leaving the structure as a monument to his beloved wife. OMG! What a sad story!
