Yeah, taxes play a role. But there are a lot of moving parts. Peak year 1977 was also when human rights legislation came in, so not sure if that played a role in payroll. But then the big change in the 1980s was the decline in unionization in the private sector. Decline in pensions in the private sector. The switch to the service based economy. Also, outsourcing and automation. Nothing left by that point, except maybe AIDS, food banks(started in 80s), and RIDE programs.
I should add that things turned out a lot better for some people. Some professionals could not stand the fact that Joe Lunchbucket got a good raise in the 1970s.

For context, I’m in my late 20s and have been doing this for over a year. I’m pretty good about spending no more than 10% of my income hobbying, so I can only do once a month. Funny thing is I used to feel like I have infinite money, since I’m a pretty cheap guy, but nowadays I feel restricted. I want to get more action, but I’m scared of overspending and nuking my savings.

To directly quote several men I hear say this, “Women are the biggest motivators to make more money!”

The problem isn’t your savings, the problem is that your income is limiting you because YOU have a limit on your income. Increase the limit and you increase your income. If getting another job doesn’t work for you then you may need to look into picking up a side hustle or start a business.

We also live in a world with Ai now. Maybe you can ask chat gpt how to make more money and it will lay out several steps for like 5 different strategies for you. 10 years ago your current income could have allowed you to save possibly 3x more than you are now. Sadly expenses increase while wages remain the same. So relying on a fixed income through drastic economic fluctuations is actually going to shoot you in the foot in the long run. So start looking into how you can MAKE more and not be so tunnel vision on how you can SAVE more.

You mention you can only do this hobby once a month for now. So I'd assume about $300 a month for a H give or take.

You def want to work on your income situation if you want sex more than once a month.

You could try finding a gf and many ladies out there working low end jobs looking for fun times which won't cost ya as much. You do have options.

And what changed between those "good ol' days" when working class folks had spare money and home ownership was more common than today?

Taxes on the richest bastards dropped.

Highest earners (not you and me or small business owners, I'm talking the mega-rich) paid over 60% marginal taxes on the highest bracket of income in the late 1970s. Now it's 33% and we wonder why everything is more expensive. We shifted costs from the richest to the working class. Now guys who work a 9-to-5 gotta save up to bang hot escorts monthly instead of making it a weekly (or multi-weekly) routine.

Tax the rich so we can bang more escorts!
For 2026:

The Federal tax rate for income over $254,482 is 33%.

The Ontario tax rate on income over $220,00 is 13.16%., which is added to the Federal income tax.

At $254,482 the Ontario surtax has kicked, in making the total Federal and Ontario marginal tax rate 53.3%.

Not really much less than the 60% you mentioned. And $254,482 annual income, in Ontario, does not qualify as "mega-rich", imho...

If your point is that our current taxes aren't that much different than back then... you need to finish the math.

If the current rate is 33% and then with everything else it's 53.3%...
and back the rate was 60% ... then with everything else it would be... much, much higher. Right?

And I just double checked. The top tax rate in 1971 was 80% over $250,000
$250,000 in 1971 dollars is over TWO MILLION dollars in today's money.

So, no. The current tax rate is nothing close to what it used to be.
Back in the 1970s a multi-millionaire would pay over 80% taxes on money earned after their first $2 million (equivalent) and that's JUST the federal rate. Plus the provincial. Plus whatever else was happening.

The rich used to pay their fair share and now they don't.
I stand by every assertion from my previous comment.
The working class got fucked by the rich getting tax breaks.
Because now schools, hospitals, housing, crime prevention, everything is underfunded because the richest of the rich bribed politicians into cutting THEIR taxes so that us working class folks get fewer services.

Tax the rich more.

I’m a quality over quantity guy, so I always go for the well-reviewed SPs rather than spas. Never got the appeals of dates tho. If I’m paying hundreds of dollars an hour I’d rather be doing freaky shit than paying a girl for drinks. I guess if the SP has cheaper rates for social dates then it makes more sense? Also, if ppl I know see me in the wild with a SP, I don’t know if I can explain it away with a convincing lie.
Fair enough bro! We’re both after different things! All good! At the end of the day it’s your choice on how you spend your money, and I respect that for sure! I usually look for well reviewed high end providers myself. Quality is definitely king. Most dates I go on are with providers I know well or I have a great connection with. This thread became more about finances now reading through it lmao. Whatever you decide I hope you’re happy with it my guy. Cheers!

I agree with you 100 percent, Im sure some hobbyist here are still in a relationship (maybe sexless relationship because of age, health reason, routine lifestyle, etc..) Sure, you can call it cheating, but if the guy still goes home and continue his boring role, as the saying goes… no harm no foul.

The bottom line is, know the limit, be safe, come home with a smile and fully rejuvenated, and it’s all good!

Sex anonymous.
More like poor people anonymous if a single guy with no kids can’t allocate 7-10 percent of income to buying himself some good sex. I think there is currently a big meeting going on in France about it.

With all the increase in necessities, maybe the percentage now is more like 5 percent, with the intention to work hard and work smart and get any additional education to increase earnings.

So what is it that you want to hear from us? I don't understand. There's no magic answers. We're all in the same boat. We wants things, but we can't afford them all. We have to pick and choose what we spend our disposable income on, if we even have any. That's life.

its an expensive hobby, just get a low maintenance girlfriend or get one of the guys on this forum to hire you lol
Is it even possible to get a low maintenance gf in 2026?

How does one find one? How can one tell if a woman is low maintenance?

The next fear is, would she cheat for someone who can give her more money

I'm kind of insecure about the whole theory regarding cheating and status / money

I spend about double that on average, still on one session a month

I get your point.

And I agree that 80% on $2 million in today's dollars is probably fair. That would leave a net income of $400,000 in today's dollars, or more, using the actual effective tax rate, which should be more than fine for most, even at today's levels of costs and expenses.

But the 53.3% marginal tax rate on $254,000 gross income today leaves a net income of about $158,000 using the effective tax rate. You might be surprised how little of that is left for savings, especially in Toronto where a 4 person family can barely, if at all, afford a nice house, good schools, an annual vacation, life insurance, and a decent car (or two) on a net income of $158,000, especially after food, clothing, and other basic daily expenses and necessities...

Perhaps the marginal tax rates today should be increased on incomes much higher than $254,000...

I’m glad I don’t work in an industry where I get access to untraceable cash like roofers and shit. One time I sold a big ticket item on Kijiji and had $5,000 cash. My wife didn’t really know how much I had but for a short period my mind was just focused on banging escorts. Stock market? College fund? Retirement saving? TFSA? Buying a new Appliance I need? Nope none of that mattered lol I saw two girls from two different agencies in the same day, saw a bunch of girls in one week. It was scary. I’m a sex addict with a big dick and a miserable wife so escort agency is made for me lol basically porn addicted professional with tons of cash own this industry

You have the sounds of becoming overly addicted. Years ago when I started, I set out certain guidelines that I never broke.
Rule #1 - ALWAYS take care of known expenses - food, investments, rent, mortgage, car payments, utilities, etc first. Believe it or not, the investment part is important not only for retirement but to also fund your extra-curricular activities. This has allowed me to have more fun now than when I was younger & working.

RULE#2 - Always pay yourself for entertainment, including going out with friends & seeing SPs. If you have to save before you have enough to see an SP then that's what you do. In today's world, if that means seeing an SP for a hh instead of an hr to make you dollars go further then that's what you have to do.

RULE #3 - NEVER, EVER mortgage your future for today's pleasure. About 15+ years ago, a friend was so addicted to seeing SPs he borrowed money against his credit cards, short term loans, etc to the point he was over 20K in debt. May not sound like a lot today but it took him almost 3 yrs to pay off that debt while also cutting way back on seeing SPs.

Enjoy the pleasure(s) when you see SPs but if you find it's becoming too addictive then it's time you walk away for a while to refocus your priorities.

hard to find but they are there I’m seeing a girl who doesn’t mind splitting I’ll treat her sometimes gotta know where to look, can’t be hanging around nightclubs , expensive hotel lobbies etc. She satisfies all my needs so haven’t had the sp itch for a long time. Feels good to be smashing a girl that’s actually into you lmao. Just like men there are many different types of women I wouldn’t generalize them all into one as much as social media makes it out to be.

My addiction has been curbed tbh I’m pretty much over the whole banging the girl with the fattest ass, occasionally i would find an sp that actually gets wet and enjoys it but then you gotta try to get her first appt of the day or else she’s dried. Up when you like 5th in line and just a hassle, they are usually a needle in a haystack any ways

if I finish things with this girl I’ll probably visit sp like on a holiday or once in a blue moon

Oh yeah I’ve never compromised on any of my expenses. Always pay rent on time and car payments get paid automatically. I also put 10% of my income every month into index funds, along with a bit in RRSPs. Never gone into big debt for anything, can’t imagine borrowing 5 figures for this shit.
