I've seen Steve "Little Steven"" Van Zandt perform live six times. Two times with Bruce Springsteen as part of the E Street Band, (1978 and 1981), with Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, (1982), as Little Steven, (ie: no Miami Horns) in 1984, at CNE Stadium in 1987, (first act preceding Los Lobos and U2), and again with the Disciples of Soul at the Danforth Music Hall on Thanksgiving, 2017.
There was a Region 2, (Europe - PAL) DVD of a performance from each of the 1982 and 1984 tours televised on a show named Rockpalast. A friend loaned the DVD to me to create a compressed version. You could watch it here:

In July, 1984, The Voice of America tour started in Montreal. I had a 7 AM - 3:30 PM job at that time, and I showed up at the club before the band arrived. Steve said "howya doin?" and shook my hand. I walked in following them, and nobody said anything. Club staff just assumed that I was "with the band", so no one asked me why I was at the soundcheck. I didn't speak to Steve again but I did talk to Jean Beauvoir and Dino Danelli for a few minutes. I mentioned to Dino that I'd never seen a drum kit like his before, and he said "And you''ll never see one again" - he'd made it himself. Jean was interested to learn that the Canadian cassette tape version of Voice of America didn't have any band member credits on the packaging.
Steve was part of the bill for U2 on the Joshua Tree tour mainly because of their involvement on the protest song "Sun City" - Steve wrote it, and Bono was in it.
