I think that at this point we are just too divided to be able to do anything together
most of us hate the other side so much that we can't even see the real enemy
I am in the planning stages for a longer post tentatively to be titled "Fight the Real Enemy". That's what Sinéad O'Connor said on Saturday Night Live, (October 3,1992), when she ripped a photograph of the Pope in half.
I've stated previously that I'm a member of the "Don't give a shit about politics" plurality, so I'll be skewering both sides. No doubt I'll need to post it in Politics, because a similar themed thread I started was locked by mods almost immediately, but it wasn't removed.
I'll be working on that for a while. I'll maybe want to find some appropriate images to break up the text blocks, and I definitely plan to add at least one YouTube song link, and perhaps a few, but not the ones people would expect. I'll also need to re-watch
The Godfather Trilogy for inspiration. I'm a believer that every lesson you need to learn to succeed in business and in life can be found through studying those films. Watching them while chatting with friends isn't going to help, because the lessons are rarely part of the plot summary. Why things happen is usually more important than what happens.
I like to stay out of the Politics forum as much s possible, not just for the shitshow it is, but because I have frankfurter on Ignore, so it makes it very difficult for me to follow the narrative. Some people just open the current page of any thread without any knowledge of the progression to that point and I just scroll past them, because anyone who does that will never say anything of interest to me.
Ideally I'd like to make the OP post, then sit back and watch, not replying to any quotes. Everything I want to say on the subject will be in one post, with subsections because some people might only want to read certain parts of it. I hope to get that done sometime before the end of this year. I'm sure quite a few people will open the thread, see the length, and close it. Ironically, they're the ones who should be reading it, but they won't.
This quote is likely no longer taught in high school English classes.
The person why speed reads looking for key words isn't going to understand why this video link is in this thread:
I first saw this clip in truncated form on some very early morning network news show. I know Hoda Kotb was a co-host, and I think Kathy Lee Gifford was the other. I watched that only once, because those shows are for early risers, and that's usually before my bedtime - I'm most creative between midnight and dawn.
When this video aired on TV, the first few and the last few seconds were clipped. It wasn't an issue of editing for time constraint, because the full video is only 34 seconds long.
TV omitted the fact that this was staged. Right at the beginning, an unseen human tossed the stick into the water, and I think I hear two people laughing, but that might just be the audio quality. He intentionally put the black dog at risk for the sake of creating a viral video. That didn't fit the scripted narrative of 'hero dog'.
They also clipped the end, so what's shown on news is an altruistic act. I attached no significance to the fact that one dog is black and the other is sort-of-white, because I hate that sort of imagined symbolism. It's fur, dammit, not skin.
Those last few seconds, however, are crucial to understanding the lighter-coloured dog's motive: he didn't care about the black dog. He just wanted the stick.
