What show had a character mention the children's books, The Cat In The Hat and The Five Chinese Brothers?

Answered by onomatopoeia

FYI: The Classic children's book The Five Chinese Brothers is banned from Toronto libraries because of the premise that each of the brothers looked exactly alike, which would be fine if they were White.

If anyone is every looking to acquire a copy of this book, check at Doug Miller Books, 650 Bloor Street West, a little west of Bathurst on the north side. I know that Doug bought many copies when the publisher was clearing old stock. Doug still owes me two copies from a trade we made in 2017, but that's my bad. I haven't been near there recently. The closing of Honest Ed's, the bike lane and COVID-19 were all huge blows to Doug's business. He's a great guy, and if any of you ever wants old or new children's books, that's his specialty.

Chongo.

As in "Uh-oh, Chongo, it's Danger Island next!, (an adventure serial which originally aired on The Banana Splits Show).

why, YES, that IS Jan Michael Vincent as Lincoln 'Link' Simmons in his first recurring TV role of more than 3 episodes*

I stumped the late Brian Linehan with THAT trivia question when I met his at the corner of Queen Street West and University, decades ago. I could tell he was impressed by his smile; he looked almost exactly like the titular character from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

*Vincent had appeared in a three episode arc on Lassie in 1968, as well as single episodes of Dragnet, and Bonanza, and an unaired pilot of The Hardy Boys: The Mystery of the Chinese Junk .

The book is not banned from the Toronto Public library as far as I can tell.
It's listed as available in multiple locales.
Maybe that just applies to my local library near Gerrard East and Parliament. The Toronto Centre MLA is almost always from the NDP, currently non binary Kristyn Wong-Tam.

That wouldn't make any sense, though.
You think they would block it if you asked for an Interlibrary loan?
Just not carrying it at a specific branch isn't a ban of any kind, most books aren't in all 100 or so branches.

Perhaps it's banned from elementary school libraries, but not from public ones.

I don't care. I have more than one copy.
I think worrying about books being banned is something to care about.
It's good to know that it isn't, and as far as I can tell never has been, banned in Toronto.

It seems very important to you that it is banned.
