Never owned a gaming console btw.
I didn’t get into gaming at home until I got a PC and that was in my last year of university. Even then it was not much of a deep dive. Really enjoyed RTS games but I played them with cheat codes on haha. Only game I really put some thought into and consumed much of my time was Diablo 3. The game that really got me into gaming and understand the appeal and allure was Metal Gear Solid. With Metal Gear Solid though once you play through the story the game lost its replayable value. So maybe I hop on and play once or twice a year.

Almost forgot. The most memorable video game and still has a place in my heart is Virtual On. Only in the arcade when they still existed and this was in the mid-90s. It felt like hopping into a cockpit of a Gundam. LOL. Almost bought the actual arcade machine on eBay but couldn’t work out the shipping and insurance with the seller.
I also loved virtual on. It came out for the Sega dream cast console. You can run it on PC using a dream cast emulator.

Check out mobile suit Gundam for dream cast. It plays like virtual on but is better.

I got a 75 dollar emulation handheld and from time to time I enjoy me some dream cast games like Gundam, virtual on, power stone, etc... My handheld is only powerful enough to do dream cast.

You can also do emulation on your phone, get a controller like the razor kishi and you will have a good time.

The biggest issue with dreamcast is that there is only 1 analog stick, 3d games play very awkwardly.

I still have the original Virtual On game on CD for the PC. It is cool to be able to play at home but just couldn't compare to playing in the arcade machine. It is like hopping into a Gundam cockpit! LOL. That experience can't be matched. Way ahead of its time.

I remember playing a lot of that Sega tennis game on the dreamcast. Virtua Tennis I think it was called? Very entertaining

FF7 is my favorite and the defining game of my childhood. Its a damn shame they kinda ruined it in the remake
I haven't gotten around to playing them yet as I'm waiting for them all to be out but I heard the general consensus was they were pretty good?

the fanbase is pretty divided when it comes to that. On one hand its a decent game that brings the graphics and gameplay up to modern standards, but on the other hand it doesn't capture the setting, tone and pacing of the original and takes alot of creative liberties. But if you take it as is youll probably enjoy it.

Ah okay yea, I can see that being an issue for some. Good to know, thank you

Bit of a niche one but Jade Empire is one of my all time favourites, I still remember the day I picked it up after work on the day it came out. Really fun game
