Trump names two US cities for Iran to take out: 'A small price to pay'
Story by Joe Sommerlad

The Independent
Trump suggests Iran 'take out' Los Angeles

President Donald Trump has sparked outrage after appearing to suggest Iran “take out” two American cities.
Speaking at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, Monday, the commander-in-chief addressed the subject of high gas prices sparked by Operation Epic Fury.
“Remember, with the war, it’s just artificial,” Trump said of the soaring costs. “It’s a little bit high.” The national average fuel price stands at $4.37 a gallon as of Tuesday morning, according to the AAA.

“It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,” he continued, before adding: “They can take out a city – let ’em take, let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego. That’s – this is a very small price to pay.”

“And it’s going to be over very soon,” Trump continued. “It’s essentially almost over with. And they might keep going a little long, you know. They always say they have a big threshold for pain. They need it, let me tell you.”

While Trump’s remarks on the Democrat-run cities drew cheers from the MAGA crowd in Nebraska, there was swift backlash from Golden State lawmakers.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom wrote in a post on X: “After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous.” “The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives,” added L.A. Mayor Karen Bass in a post of her own.

Her San Diego counterpart, Mayor Todd Gloria, was equally indignant: “San Diego is not collateral damage. We are not expendable. And we are never a ‘small price to pay.’ Keep our city out of your reckless war talk.”
San Diego city councilmember and Democratic congressional candidate Marni von Wilpert suggested Trump’s remark provided grounds for an unprecedented third impeachment.

“This is an impeachable offense by the commander-in-chief, who swore an oath to protect our country,” she said. “Our homes, our families and our communities cannot be treated as collateral damage or a political punchline by this president.”

Even the Trump-backed San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, a Republican and Navy veteran running against Von Wilpert, said he “vehemently” disagreed with the president.

Los Angeles alone is home to nearly 4 million Americans, as well as numerous important industries and corporations (Alamy/PA)
“Our job is to keep Americans safe, stand up to our enemies, and make sure a threat like that never becomes reality,” he posted. “No American city is expendable, and no American family should ever be treated as collateral damage.”

So I watched NBC news tonight at 6:30.

They showed the whole speech portion, where Trump said words to the effect that we would see what might happen if Iran had nuclear weapons. Just watch them take out Los Angeles and San Diego!

Kind of puts the things in a different perspective, and once again shows to go it all depends on who is reporting the news, and how they take things out of context.

Not to mention the outraged response by top level Democrats in California who denounced Trump, based on the false news given the way it was reported by the biased sources, or just because they thought they could score political and mid-term election points by going along with the misrepresentation of what Trump actually said in his speech in Nebraska.

I can't stand Trump, but I also can't stand one-sided news reporting that intentionally makes him look bad , when, once in a while, he isn't...

Sorry, but his bad sentence structure and disjointed thoughts don't excuse the obvious gist of his horrible statement. He's an insane piece of shit and needs to be removed.

Nope. It was from "The Independent", which just shows up among on the many items on my front page when I open up Microsoft Edge.

Here was the headline, which of course sucked me into opening up the article:

"Trump names two US cities for Iran to take out: 'A small price to pay'
Story by Joe Sommerlad

The Independent "

I won't be trusting that source in the future...

It took watching "NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas" to get the complete story.

Perhaps the old man will have a senile moment and tell the Iranians to hit the east coast and bomb Maralago instead. We can only hope.

Even that clip did not show, when first mentioned, Trump's preface to his Los Angeles and San Diego destruction remarks by stating that could be the consequence of Iran having nuclear weapons.

Not until later in the clip is that clarified...
I agree he didn't say take them out, but he deliberately chose two blue states, knowing full well he would trigger a shitstorm.

I didn't listen to what was said. I presume the message
Trump meant to convey but was unable to do it right
would be something like you don't support him and Israel
then LA and San Diego would be nuked by Iran. The U.S.
would not survive without Israel's protection.

Sure, but he says losing LA and San Diego would be worth the price of war.

Hopefully he just never wakes up again

He is an insane piece of shit who should really be removed, but I still think what he was trying to say was that Iran could have taken out LA and San Diego if he hadn't acted, and that the current high fuel prices is a small price to pay for preventing that. The fact that I detest Trump does not mean I'm going to jump on the train of people who want to paint Trump in the most heinous light possible. He's heinous enough without the exaggeration.

"Let'em take out Los Angeles" Why did he use the words "Let'em"? And why did he choose a democratic city? His terrible grammar and sentence structure don't excuse his horrible intent.

Er if that take out LA and Sandiego with nukes does that not mean the entire policy FAILED. I mean if all his is so they won't have nukes and they use a nuke is that not utter failure? And if they have nukes and MORON has nuked them why would they stop with just 2 cities? In any case they are closer to the East Coast so NYC and DC would be much easier for them

Why did a guy who regular uses crappy sentence structure word it that way? Because he's an idiot.
Why choose a democratic city? Because they're the most fervently against his Iran war.
And like I said, I highly doubt his intent was to egg Iran on into bombing San Diego and LA.
