I do not understand what you mean by 'VSC for one lap minimum'. Walk me thru the details.

In this case, say Norris was on Turn 8 (out of 22) on Lap 10, when the VSC begins. And they are ready to resume racing when Norris is on Turn 20 on the same lap (10). Instead of resume to racing conditions, race control should wait till Norris pits and is back to Turn 8 (where the VSC started) on Lap 11? What if Norris has a 8 second pit stop? What if P2 did not stop for the pits on the lap before Norris?

Also why talk only about someone who was in P1. What do we do about someone who is in say P10. Should we then, wait for them to make a full lap so that the person in P11 does not overtake during VSC/pit stop?

Absurd suggestion, I agree. If you want to make everyone be in the same position, the only way is to STOP at the exact location when the VSC is about to begin and START from the exact location when the VSC is about to end. Even then, someone who is stopping in a corner will not have the same advantage over someone who is stopping in the straight.

Agree. There is an element of luck/unluck in all sports.

We all have seen the bizarre Hulk retirement a few races ago.
When the VSC is tossed out, you can see which cars can readily dive into the pits, those cars have the option to stop or not under the VSC. At the sametime say if Max had just driven by the pits and the VSC came out and had zero chance to pit.. he now has the longest drive back to the pit entrance than any other car. Use his car position to base the one lap VSC. If Max decides to pit, he gets to pit under VSC conditions, if he decides to push on the VSC can end. If Max does pit, he gets a fixed time to clear the pit lane, say 28 seconds for most tracks. That starts the timer when the VSC will end. If max has a bad stop, that's too bad, the track goes green once the clock ticks to 28 seconds. Everyone gets a chance to pit under a neutralized condition.

The whole idea of the VSC is to neutralize the race that is to say no car gains an advantage. Right now, depending where you are on track someone can win out, like Kimi and Max just did.

The VSC was really created to slow the cars if trackers are on the circuit and should only be used if a minor issue needs to be clear.

Think we all have enough experience to say when a red flag should be used...like when Latiffi crashed and ended the career of Masi...so clear what should have happened back then...RED FLAG RED FLAG...Max still would have won that race btw!!

Yeah, right. That's very simple :)

What about the other positions? Why consider only P1?

Masi's career ended, 'cos of the way he "did not" apply the rules that were in effect at that time. If not for Masi, Lewis would have been a 8 time champion and Max a 3 time champion.

It is really really funny to say, Max still would have won the race :)

1) If rules were applied correctly - Race would have ended behind the SC, thereby Lewis who was on P1 would have won the race and the championship
2) If there was a RED Flag, everyone could have changed the tyres, which includes Lewis who was on P1. And likely Lewis would have won the race on the restart. Max overtook Lewis cos of the tyre offset.

I'm only using Max as a reference point...but it would be the driver that has the longest drive back to the pit once the VSC flag falls. Obviously cars say within 10 seconds of the pit entry (an arbitrary painted lane) needs a few seconds to make the call so they could make the call. Think it would be easy to implement

I see Kimi goes to the same driving school as Lance Stroll. Let's see if the kid can battle his way back to the front. Anything less than second place will be a fail.

He definitely has a good chance to come all the way ahead. With the race pace that they have and the long long long straights, he should be able to.

Wow, Lance Stroll made it to Q2 in the Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sepang in Malaysia! Is that the first time he's done that in 2026?

Lance is still on a duck in the Driver's Championship, but 12th place at Sepang was his best finish of this year, and I believe the only time he wasn't lapped at least once in any of the five races when he was classified at the checkered flag. Alonzo more than doubled Aston Martin's Constructors' Championship points with his 8th place finish.

Cadillac Ferrari still have zero Drivers' and Constructors' Championship points. Bottas' 13th place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix is the team's best result to date.

If Cadillac-Ferrari scores no points for the season, that will be expensive for them next season. Scoring at least 1 Constructors' point means that the team's travel expenses to and from Grands Prix will be paid by Formula 1 for the following season. Zero point teams have to pay their own freight bill, which is a significant expense.
