I’m sure these operations could be run better — and I’m the last person to clap for the police. But instead of treating 11 arrests as a win, you’re defending the idea of turning it into a game and trolling agents. How is that helpful? The cops are doing this thing this poorly, and caught a few creeps. How many more would they have caught with good quality work? My point stands; they should stop wasting our hard-earned money, by upping their pathetic game.
Without actual insider knowledge, calling these fake ads a waste of money is pure speculation, especially when the results are sitting right there for everyone to see. Plenty of internet creators catch predators with deliberately obvious bait, and it works. The old Dateline “To Catch a Predator” stings did the same thing — the bait was often blatant once the age came up, yet men still showed up. I guess some people are narcissistic and creepy enough to bite anyway. TBH, taking pride in spotting police traps and playing cat-and-mouse with them for entertainment raises some red flags of its own.
Playing armchair detective is easy. Making actual arrests, not so much. It’s entirely possible the ads are kept obvious on purpose so the cases hold up better in court. Celebrating people getting caught for trying to exploit minors seems like a better use of energy than defending those focused on how “pathetic” the cops look when we finally see them doing their jobs.
