Another completely unnecessary but somehow important Endurance research project.

This one starts with a pretty simple question:

Approximately how much have you spent hobbying over the past 12 months?

To be clear, I mean the most recent 12 months from today — not the last calendar year.

No need to pull out the calculator, bank statements or explain anything to your accountant. Just your best estimate.

The poll is anonymous, so nobody will know which spending range you selected.

THE POLL
  • $250–$1,600
  • $1,601–$3,000
  • $3,001–$5,000
  • $5,001–$10,000
  • $10,001–$15,000
  • $15,001–$20,000
  • $20,001–$25,000
  • $25,001–$30,000
  • $30,001+
Why Am I Asking?
A DM conversation with another TERBite actually got me thinking about this.

From our conversation, it sounded like his hobby spending was somewhere around $1,600–$2,000 over a 12-month period.

My own spending over the most recent 12 months is probably somewhere around the $20K mark.

That's quite a difference between two guys participating in the same hobby.

For me, one dud isn't going to matter much in the grand scheme of things.

But three duds in a row?

Now Endurance sits back and starts doing the math.

That could have been one hell of a 2- or 3-hour session with one of my favourites.

But comparing his roughly $2K with my roughly $20K made me realize something:

I actually have no idea what the average TERB hobbyist spends over 12 months.

Is $2K fairly typical?

$5K?

$10K?

Is my roughly $20K way out in left field, or are there plenty of other TERBites quietly spending in that neighbourhood too?

I have my own guess about where most of the votes will land, but I'll keep that to myself for now so I don't influence the results.

I'll leave the pole up for 12 days, and I believe when you vote you'll be able to see the running tally.

That's it for this Endurance research project. Vote honestly and let's see where everyone lands.

Poll closed
Results posted below with some takes on the outcome. Interesting results.

telling people not to check their bank statements is the most merciful instruction in this whole poll nobody actually wants to see that total in one place

Now I see how they manage to do it. The money really adds up to be able to handle horny guys on a daily/weekly basis.

Did this once on another thread somewhere and for me it's about 12-13K per year, something I built into my retirement plans. Just wishing I was younger so I could at least double down in an hour.

For me its 15k-20k. I keep it all on a spreadsheet. The way I justify it is that I don't use my salary for my habit

All the money I use comes from rewards, cash back, cash jobs I do for neighbours, and gigging (I play music and do a few gigs a year).

On average those things bring me $1800-2200 a month and I use that for my escapades.

I don't plan on doing this forever but for now it is bringing me self esteem, commitment to my workouts and health goals, and many other benefits so I consider it an investment in myself.

The amount you spend is secondary - as long as you take care of your financial responsibilities - that is the key (mortage, family, investments...etc) spend till your hearts content. Max out your investments and whatever you have left over enjoy - YOLO.

I'm not going to vote in the poll because that's a little more than I'm comfortable sharing. I will say that I have (different) hourly limits for independent, agency, and classifieds providers AND I have a monthly budget. I do allow myself some flexibility, but I'm lucky that my budget comes pretty close to covering my desired frequency and duration of sessions.

I'm serious about budgeting. 1) I need to be OK when I'm old, and 2) Blowing your budget puts too much pressure on a good time.

I tend to spend a lot less nowadays compared to when I first started hobbying. I dont really keep close track of how much I spend since all my personal and family financial responsibilities are well taken care of and what I spend on sp's doesnt really effect that or put those responsibilities at risk. I know i spend less now because i just dont see as many sp's now compared to 5-10 years ago. I try to focus on specific experiences i want with sp's so for each date I tend to spend a bit more but see less women overall.

I agree with you on the benefits @newguy2201 and smart way to fund the hobby. Using cash for cash smart for sure.

My hobbying has rapidly shaped this way. Preferring longer sessions with familiar favourites and it's transitioned to this over the last 12 months in my second year. Wondering if the big spenders are mostly like this or are they mostly new SP every time.

You should check out "the stages" if you haven't. It happens to be true for many. Even if it doesn't fit a person perfectly, I suspect most of us can see shades of "the stages" in ourselves.

For me personally, I got most of my sexual experimentation out of the way in the civilian side of things (and my current tastes are pretty vanilla), and I like a nice mix of repeats and new providers. Though I see why many vets go "regulars only" for long stretches of time.

Thanks for posting this .. yeah I found this really interesting

With one partner all my life and stayed true. Then came the period where the intimacy is no longer part of the relationship anymore and for a long while went without. Then discovered this hobby.

I would say I advanced within the two year period and especially the last 8 months to level 4 with glimpses of stage 5

My take was getting to stage 4 so quickly opened opportunities to experimentation explained in stage 3 including visiting sex clubs.

Now I would say I'm bouncing between stages 2, 3, and 4 at the moment. Next probably settle into stage 4 after I discover a spicy latina and an ebony to add to my favs

Thanks again for posting this link.

Last day for this pole. Seems like the percentages split stayed fairly steady since the first day .

Just need 30 more for an even 100 votes cast. Voting is anonymous so don't be shy.

The numbers are interesting so far and I'll post the final results later and ask the data analysts to dig in and bring forth their insights and opinions.

$0. And I only spent $500 in the previous 12 months before that. I have maybe spent $3000 since 2020 on the hobby.

Which is a far cry from the $15,000-$25,000 I was spending PER YEAR before COVID. Part of that is I was dating someone from late 2020 to 2024, and so didn't engage in the hobby at all. And the other part is just being focused on other things, while throwing the saved money into investments instead.

Well, the polls are closed and the Endurance Research Department officially has its first completed data set. 😂
77 votes in total.
Final results:
$250–$1,600 — 18
$1,601–$3,000 — 11
$3,001–$5,000 — 9
$5,001–$10,000 — 14
$10,001–$15,000 — 8
$15,001–$20,000 — 5
$20,001–$25,000 — 2
$25,001–$30,000 — 3
$30,001+ — 7
Now I'm going to turn this over to the TERB members who actually know something about statistics and data analysis. 😂

What do you see in these numbers?
Anything surprise you?

What observations or conclusions—if any—can reasonably be drawn from 77 votes?

I'm genuinely interested in hearing how some of the numbers guys interpret it rather than me trying to make the data say what I think it says.

And one other thought...
I wonder if any of the SPs following TERB have been quietly watching this poll too. 🤔

From their side of the business, these numbers might be interesting for completely different reasons.

Endurance Research Project #1 complete.

Research Project #2—how much time we spend researching our selections—is still underway.

without income and frequency data its hard to analyze
the poll only shows spending not affordability

I undertook a project a month or so ago. I went back through my messages and added my sessions to my calendar, as I was curious how often I saw people this year. Fortunately I didn't add spend or this would have been really depressing lol. 23 ladies, 70 sessions. A lot were 120 hh Asians but a lot were full hour 300+ as well, 1 $600 duo. Haven't seen anyone in almost 4 weeks now. Only 4 ladies did I see more than once.
