I'm thinking about moving to America in the near future

If you had the funds would you do it?

Never really visited, but their gun laws to defend along with other things appeal to me.

More Canadians tend to move there than vice versa.

The free health care here isn't a reason why I wanna stay here.

Absolutely NOT!! Not being a citizen and getting sick their will cost you a small fortune. You also lose about 40-50% value of the Canadian dollar to the US dollar so that's a big financial hit. Yes, they have more liberal gun ownership and use laws but other than that why get into an argument with someone who'll take his/her gun and shoot you if he/she thinks you're a threat to them (depending on which state). Besides having some warmer weather year-round states not much they have we don't have here, unless you like the orange menace. Besides if you plan to see escorts, at least in Canada it's fairly simple and easy compared to the U.S where it's illegal everywhere except in a few Nevada counties.

I have serious doubts that many Canadians move to the US except for snowbirds who reside there in the winter months but even that has changed since many are now going elsewhere primarily because of the exchange rate and the orange menace.

In general, no.

The U.S. is a good place to become rich, though. I haven’t, but I have watched others do so.

If you get a job offer that would put you in the top 10 percent of income earners in that U.S. region, and that income is at least twice as much (preferably three times as much) as what you would earn in Canada, you should consider it. Even more so if you get stock options in a company that might explode in value. This is why the U.S. is a preferred destination for Canadian tech workers. Your chance of becoming extremely wealthy is greater in the U.S. than in Canada. If you have a good job, it will come with good insurance.

Do not move to the U.S. and take a shitty job. Canada is a much better place to be middle class or god forbid to be poor.

If you buy a gun, the most likely person you will shoot with it is yourself, or an innocent bystander, which might introduce you to our lovely private prison system.

Paid sex is 2-3 times more expensive in the U.S. than in Canada for comparable services done in a way to avoid arrest.

Civilian sex comparisons are iffy. American chicks dig foreign accents if you are white. But that is pretty much limited to exotic places they want you to take them to like Britain, France and Australia. Not sure Canada is exotic enough really, and most of them only vaguely know where Canada is. They know it is North.

I'd get duel citizenship eventually but probably wouldn't visit Canada as much.

The gun to defend would not be used on me or some random person knocking on my door unless I needed to go get it.

And I'd be moving into a decent neighbourhood.

Income would def not be for a lower end career or business.

Guns are sacred especially because Native Americans need them to hunt. Even if their ancestors used bows and arrows, people evolve. That’s the same evolution that caused people of non-UK descent to no longer speak their ancestor’s native tongue.

As a result, I’m indifferent to gun access, because I know that the second the topic becomes veganism, those same people calling guns dangerous will suddenly prioritize a Native American’s right to go hunting.

I could consider Europe. I'm just getting tired of the colder months here compared to warmer ones. Would want 6 months or more where the weather is between 20-28C.

I have no desire to move to a 3rd world country with delusions of grandeur.

Not that they'd let me in anyways :p, I'd likely be turned away or shoved in a camp immediately.

Sounds to me like you just want to carry a gun. 🤷‍♂️

"America" isn't just some homogenous place. And unless you have spent time in various places in the states, you are going in blind.

I've spent a LOT of time, both short and long term in various states, cities and towns and know lots of people throughout the US. I've lived in South Florida, Central Florida and the Tampa Bay area for up to a year at a time over the years. It was fun back then but Florida HAS CHANGED BIG TIME and I hate it there now. Not even to visit or go to a trade show or pretty much anything.

When I did live those months in Florida, I got a Florida driver's license and did get a Concealed Weapons Permit. Bought a compact Glock in .40 cal 'just in case'. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Ended up being a real PITA to store, carry and be responsible for. Seeing as I never really went to places that I'd need it, I ended up selling it back to the gunshot I bought it from.

I'd suggest spending a few weeks in several areas that you think you might like to live before moving there. And make sure you have a plan to make friends wherever you decide.

If I could I would. The company I work for has a US division so I would ask for a transfer and go from there.

Crime does worry me, but that's life.

And I wouldn't consider Europe.

I think it's better to stay in Canada than move to a European country.

No. I like my peace, my ability to trust my government and law enforcement won't railroad me. I like better food inspections and less chemicals in food. I like the healthcare. I like the much lower crime and poverty levels. I like our political system. I like our politics in comparison.

I like our outdoor culture. Our winter culture and cope. I like the seasons. I like our education levels. I like our education systems. I like our better labour laws.

There are just so many things I like it offsets anything I might not like. We are, in Canada, easily in the top 5% of the world for living conditions.

Money isn't everything.

Have you ever felt you were under a genuine threat that you would need a gun? Honestly? In may almost 6 decades in the nation, and having been in various sketchy situations abd places I haven't.

But traveling in various US cities, I see why they do.

Over 40 years in Canada and no. No threat. But it's nice to have for self defense. But the main reason is better weather than 3-4 good weather here.

GTA & Thereabouts...
My vote would be to stay in Canada but travel to Europe a bit more for the weather. I'm not really into Winter as much as I get older. Perhaps a move to BC would be the ticket?

What if the person is above average?

And wanting a place with a population under 100K or maybe under 50K. Blue or red State wouldn't bother me.

If Canada allowed guns for self defense I'd have one for just in case. If it never got used or needed to come out then that's fine too. I've fired rounds at a rifle range years ago. I wouldn't mind doing that again. And yeah I know you can do that in Canada too. I've got 2 buddies who do.

I'd def go visit before just up and moving.

I bet in America, I can make a fortune selling blood whereas here, they don’t even so much as care if you pass out and die after the donation process.

‘Feeling whoozy? Get the fuck out of here!’
‘Sorry, only one bag of chips per person maximum. We aren’t a food bank. It’s your own problem how you replenish the sodium in your body.’
