It's not really. The data set in this poll doesn't support what you said. How can you allocate 18% unsure directly to Carney?

I'm just showing the bias, because giving Carney 51% looks better than say 67% are not confident in Carney being unbeatable.

It's feels better to say "Knives are out for Pollievre" then to say Canadians believe he and Harper "would have the highest chance to defeat Prime Minister Mark Carney if they were leader of the Conservative Party or Canada." (Not my words either)

You are assuming 18% will vote, and all would vote Conservative. They would, if they vote, likely split as the nation splits. But realistically in this connected and partisan world its because they just don't follow politics so will either vote as someone tells them, be it spouse, parent or friend group, or can't be bothered unless a single issue drives them there.

A classic example happened to Trudeau. Pot smokers came out for him in the first election. Its how he got his majority. Once he legalized it, they didn't care any more.

Carney isn't Trudeau. His popularity has risen. If this deal is acceptable he will be in clear majority territory

Sure. But I think allocating half is fair. So 60%? What politician, especially in a multi party system wouldn't be happy with that? And what opposition party wouldn't be considering major changes?

I'll read into this: Conservative support hovers around 35%. The conservative party today is a mishmash of older Progressive Conservatives and younger Reform Party/Podcast Bros/MGTOWs. If I add Harperites (PC's) and Po-lievers (Reformers), we're at 31%. If I add up the "no one can beat Carney's" with the "I don't know's", I get 51%. which is about where the Liberals + Dippers are polling.

So the poll seems to pass the sniff test, and tells me that less than half of conservative voters think PP can beat Carney.

And the 17-or-whatever Conservative MP's agree with these results, based on their experience talking to their constituents.

I don't think you are really interpreting this right.

This isn't a poll of support - it's polling if they think a given conservative leader can beat Carney, there is no reason to think they track party support.

Also, the percentages don't add up to 100, as you can see.

The poll seems perfectly valid, sure, but it isn't one of support at all, it's just about vibes on whether or not that leader can pull it off.

Carney is sitting at 70% in some recent polls. Unless he royally fucks up he will get a majority whenever he calls an election. If Im Brown I do another term, sort out the Stellantis plant, and wait for the right timing.

You need to get out of your media eco system. He is setting up, and doing the real process work for better trade worldwide. Guys like Trump make proclamations that result in nothing. Carney is getting real deals. New subs, the Spy plane deal, EU affiliation, Aussie radar system, SAFE access.

And standing up to the assholes in the USA.
