They let Bertuzzi walk so that they could afford to keep Domi as well. :geek:

Never forget that Domi sacrificed his potential roster spot in the 2016 All Star Game for the John Scott legacy story. 🫡

Bert is in that Hyman and Kadri category.
Having to go with lesser players in the likes of Kerfoot, Bunting, and Domi.

It wasn't to keep Domi. Bertz is way overpaid for his production and didn't so much his lone season in Toronto or his playoff run with the Bruins.

I’ll never forget SteveDangle emphasizing how Marner’s agent really pushed to compensate for missing out on including that performance bonus (top ten in the league in assists in 2018-19) in his ELC
His next contract more than made up for missed performance bonuses.

Fair enough. I’m a casual hockey fan in comparison to others here, so I wouldn’t know. All I know was that Treliving initially rounded up them and Reaves in response to Bennett taking out Knies in the 2023 series.

Bert scored 32 goals last season. Tops on his team. He's signed for 5.5 mill till end of 2028. That's 2 more years.
That is good value. Tops on the Leafs last season was 31 goals.
Bert was good when he played for the Leafs. He has skill and he has grit and he is competitive.
Precisely the type of player Leafs are looking for now. He's one player that can counter Marchand and his antics.
He would not have stood around and did nothing if he was on the ice when Matthews got kneed by Gudas.
Leafs wanted to keep Bert but could only afford Domi because they were paying 4 forwards over 10 million per.

Bert had 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points in 7 playoff games for the Bruins. That is outstanding performance.
You're way off on that one. Bruins lost to Florida in 7 games because both their top 2 centers were injured.
For the Leafs Bert had 4 points in 7 games in the playoffs. That series Matthews missed games 5 and 6 due to injury.
Nylander missed the first 3 games. Woll was injured in game 6 and didn't play game 7. McMann missed the whole series.

I feel bad for Bert. Only two career playoff appearances and they both ended in a first round Game 7 OT loss for him at TD Garden 😢

Muzzin is the only other person I can recall on Robidas Island.

Because I’m a casual, I had to double check that Wayne Simmonds wasn’t on LTIR and that he simply stayed unsigned until his official retirement. But by revisiting Simmonds, I remember the story of his teacher belittling him. That took a lot of control on his part not to disclose the teacher’s name. With my gripe with the public education system, I would’ve done it. I would praise the good teachers and call out the bad ones

Do you guys think this might be the best Leafs team since 1993?

Now the 2021-22 Leafs, that team was something. They made Campbell look like a Vezina goalie and baited Ken Holland into signing him to that contract that currently still carries all that dead cap :ROFLMAO:

I think this team will do alright on offence. With Raddysh and McKenna the pp should be better. I don't believe they've improved much on defence. They'll heavily depend on two 35+ players, one (Tanev) with a injury history and the other (Bob) who just had his worse season. If both can stay healthy enough to play at least 50 games each, they should mask a lot of their deficiencies and make the playoffs, but without additional improvement it'll not be enough to withstand playoff physicality.

I forgot about Raddysh. When my sister heard about his signing, she compared his unsustainable career year to that of EP40 when he signed for that 11.6 mill AAV :ROFLMAO:

With this Leafs defence, Bobrovsky will look like an ECHL goalie.

Perfect. That means I should bet the over on every Leafs game :ROFLMAO:
They’ve become the new Oilers in that regard

I was excited when they won the division under Berube’s first season. It set up the Battle of Ontario. But Reaves didn’t play at all and the lack of hostility in the series left me disappointed
