Sounds like Joe Biden, he broke his promise to not run again and let a new generation takeover. I voted for old Joe, but was so disappointed he didn't step down earlier. To allow a full primary season to find a winning candidate against the orange, racist pig.

I'm not sure why they brought it up at all. They could have just focused on wanting progressive candidates to run.

I get they may have felt they needed to defend against a line of attack they expected but it's hard not to think they feel trapped by their 2020 position that dropping out is cheating and had to say something obviously false here.
Even if you believed this, that would still imply there is evidence of him saying it in the first place.He forgot he said it the next day.
