Macklemore Dropped From Ed Sheeran Tour After pro-Israel Campaign Over Support for Palestinians
The rapper was set to open eight of the tour's remaining 10 shows, but after he delivered a pro-Palestinian speech at a concert in August, promoters said venues warned they would cancel the concerts if he performed

Macklemore was dropped as an opener for the remainder of Ed Sheeran's tour amid controversial pro-Palestinian statements during his sets, music industry publication Rolling Stone reported on Monday.
The rapper was meant to appear in eight of the remaining 10 shows on Sheeran's Loop Tour, with the next concert slated for Friday in Philadelphia.
Earlier this month, during back-to-back shows in New Jersey, Macklemore performed "Hind's Hall" – a 2024 single dedicated to Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza, and Hamilton Hall, the Columbia University building where pro-Palestinian protesters barricaded themselves.

In the song, Macklemore voices support for the pro-Palestinian campus protests that swept universities across the United States in 2024 and chants "Free Palestine." Before performing the song, Macklemore told the crowd that he wanted "people all the way in Gaza to the occupied West Bank to know we have not forgotten about them."

Messina Touring Group, the promoter for the U.S. leg of the Loop Tour, told Rolling Stone that it was notified by venues that they would not allow the event to take place if Macklemore performed.

It "would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates," Messina Touring Group said in the statement.

In the wake of the New Jersey concerts, the Israeli-American Council began circulating a petition addressed to Sheeran, the concert promoters, MetLife Stadium and other venues hosting the tour, calling on Sheeran to remove Macklemore from his tour.
"Macklemore used the stage to deliver an extended political message, called for 'Free Palestine' and performed 'Hind's Hall' while images from Gaza and other political messaging were projected across the stadium screens," the petition reads.

The petition argued that Sheeran's concerts should not be used as a platform for political advocacy, while stressing that Macklemore is free to hold his own political views. It asks, however, "where the line should be drawn when an opening act uses a global concert platform to advance a one-sided political agenda."

In a statement on Monday, the IAC welcomed the decision. "Freedom of speech is not freedom from responsibility," the organization said. "A concert stage is not a platform for anti-Israel and antisemitic propaganda," it added.

In his speech before singing "Hind's Hall," Macklemore noted that his 11-year-old daughter was at the concert, adding that he wanted children around the world to "know safety and peace before they know the sound of violence, the sound of laughter on a playground before planes and bombs."

Its because the concert sponsors like Robert Kraft were Jewish or Zionist supporters.
But the harder they push back, the louder the anti-Israel voices will be.
Heck I didn't even know there was a singer called Macklemore until this fiasco. lmfao.

As a free speech supporter regardless of the message, I support Macklemore and the other musicians who have his back. He shouldn't have been booted from the Sheeran tour. I don't even agree with him. I think he could very well be an attention-getting singer whose best years are behind him.

As they say though, you can say whatever you want but you are not free from the consequences.
The consequences are the disruption of a major tour and further politicization of an entertainment product.
That tour brings music to people as well as creates jobs and economic activity.
Regardless of your political feelings, I highly doubt that many Ed Sheeran fans care about the political messaging.
