During the Division Era of Major League Baseball, (post 1968), there have been four instances in which a father and his son have both played for and Managed an MLB team.
I'm not going to give anyone green type for on a duck level trivia knowledge for knowing the Bob and Aaron Boone and Gus/ David Bell pairings. There is another, and there is another.
Pair #1:
Dad had three All Star Game appearances and/ or selections, with 0, 1 or 2 All Star nods in one each of three consecutive seasons. He has three World Series Championship rings. He batted left and threw right. He never played for an American League team. He was living, as of January 1, 2026.
Son played all or part of 9 consecutive Major League seasons, including one season with 100+ games played and 99 in his final season. He was traded at the deadline of the season in which he played 100+ games. One of the players exchanged with him in this six man deal once had a 50 home run season. One of the players received for him is on the ML list of catchers who have caught a Perfect Game.
Pair #2:
Dad, his son and his brother were each named to at least three ML All Star Teams.
His nephew played ten seasons in the majors with a sub 4.00 lifetime ERA in 600+ career innings, 100+ career Saves, and a career WHIP* of under 1.28 The nephew was once traded even up for a player who at one point in time was the highest paid player in Major League Baseball history.
The son never played Major League Baseball, unlike one of his four living full or half-brothers.
Name either or both father-son Manager pairs.
