I was in Bangkok one early morning and a lady was sitting at a desk in the park, with a sign that said "psychic" She asked where I was from. I said, "shouldn't you know that?"
OK....there is no such thing as being able to predict the future by looking at cards.
You’re not entirely wrong, but “carny trick” is a pretty harsh way of putting it. Readings feel accurate largely because of psychological effects such as confirmation bias and the Barnum effect. The cards are ambiguous enough that we project our own circumstances onto them, focus on the parts that fit, and disregard the parts that do not. When I do readings, I interpret the cards based on the context and reactions provided by the person receiving the reading. In my experience, people are often drawn to tarot when they feel vulnerable or uncertain, particularly about relationships, because it offers a sense of clarity and control when there is no definite answer available. It can still be interesting and useful for exploring your own thoughts, but its apparent accuracy comes from psychology and interpretation.

Anyways, I was living in Westmount, and she was out in Kirkland, which is a 45 minute drive each way.

There is or was a 'psychic reader' located on the east side of Yonge Street, just south of what used to be called Dundas Square. I was nearby in 2017 when I saw two guys get into a fistfight on the sidewalk. One of them said 'How dare you say that about my dead mother!'.
A fortune teller claims to predict what will happen. A tarot reader interprets the symbolism of the cards to explore someone’s current circumstances, emotions, and possible outcomes. Some tarot readers do claim to predict the future, but that’s nonsense.
There should be a Tarot reader that gives happy endings afterwards
