Why do people lie about their jobs?

It's one thing to show up to an appointment and not tell someone what your job is and withhold information, but why do they come up with some fantastic version of themselves like I'm not going to figure it out.

I have one guy who over the years claims to work at the hospital and claims to be a paramedic... Just lots of people claiming to work in the medical field , and it becomes very obvious from talking to them for a few minutes that they're completely full of c***.

They are almost always asking for unsafe services.

I just had a guy claim that he's only been with his wife... but then said he gets tested every three months... If you're only with one person, there's no reason to be tested every 3 months.And then he tried to tell me it's a requirement of his job to get tested every three months

I don't know why these people think I'm new.

I know that he was going to provide me some b******* papers to try and ask for the forbidden thing or whatever you guys call it, but I don't understand why they even bother, why don't they just go with the lady that does it all the time. There's a lady that does it all the time! Why don't they just bother that person?!

I hate liars and I don't understand why people choose to start off any type of business relationship with me by lying to my face and the expectation is that I pretend like I believe them.

I hate having to pretend to be stupid. I hate encouraging liars to lie. I hate letting them think that they've somehow pulled the wool over my eyes.

People who are only sexually active with one person don't need to be tested every three months... it's not the requirement of anyone's job to be tested every three months... He knew the lingo like a pro... people who have never done this before do not know the acronyms and they second guess themselves.

I don't know why people pretend to have never hired an escort before when it's very obvious that they do it all the time.

So I guess my question to everyone is... why lie?

I would much rather someone just withhold information and tell me straight up that they don't feel comfortable sharing that information, and I completely understand but it's a whole other layer to straight up, lie to my face and expect me to smile and nod when someone is clearly just lying about everything they're saying.

I would honestly much rather someone just not even talk.

Liars bother me so much. I would rather not even hear them speak

They don't have to tell me everything.But when stuff doesn't add up and nothing , they say makes sense , I don't even know why they bother.

What is the point of small talk if everything they say is not true?

I mean i've had business relationships with people for years and not known anything about them.

If they choose to share something great , but i'm not gonna press them for information.

I don't know why people would make up fake careers and fake relationships and fake personas. It's a little weird. I don't even care that much.

I didn't even know what one person did until he left his badge at my house

Let me tell you how my heart dropped into my asshole... but I still to this day know very little about this person and a lot of the people that I know.

You white lie and have a fake persona. So some clients do the same and others take it to a degree to make themself seem well off probably an ego thing or fantasy.

Hopefully you're not asking your clients what they do for a living. You could make small talk with other things. I'm sure you're 100% honest too of course...

It is technical and somewhat arcane.
But I can make it mostly understandable to most folks with a few simpliifed examples.

Like: See those signs on the big highways that tell you the real travel time to some down the road destination point?
Or the Waze time on your phone?

Well I have designed the signs,
And am also involved in the sensors that feed the computer system that distills the travel time data.
We place sensor stations that listen for cel phone low level signals and car bluetooth signals as folks drive by.
And they send data packets of these sightings with a GPS location and time stamped envelope to a digital fish bowl.
When a similar sensor downstream sends in the same ID, an automatic process digs the fish bowl searched for for ID matches.
And uses 5 or 6 of these found matches, and how far apart in distance and time they were, to set the travel time predictions for the next few minutes.

Yes it is wierd, but a bit to much to make up and come off like you are talking crap.

I'm a terrible liar , though , so i'm not one to create a whole other person , I just don't tell people stuff.

I think I lack the ability to just like make stuff up. I guess it's part of being on the spectrum , so this phenomenon of people lying and making stuff up is just alien to me.

See I love that. You don't have to tell me your job and you don't have to tell me your title and you don't have to tell me where you work... but I know that you're telling the truth about your job.

If someone lies about their job and then can explain absolutely nothing about the job... why even bother.

I think peoples jobs are cool. I wouldn't even know where to begin doing half of the jobs people have , but I think it's awesome.

i don't have a problem with people explaining to me that I would not understand their job because I probably wouldn't... but for someone to say to me that they work in a lab, they can't even tell me even basic things and they are getting information wrong... I don't know why they even bother.

Unfortunately, some people in this world are just pathological liars. I've encountered both genders doing it. Some even lie about going to an event on a weekend which I may know about or attended so I'll ask some questions including stuff with lies and they fall for it saying that's what happened at the event. I usually play along then end the convo. The entertainment gets stale rather quick.

Like if if a guy works in a lab I would love to talk to him about germs and infection control. I actually get excited , but it's always just some guy that follows up that he works in a lab to try and explain to me why I should have unprotected sex with him

I worked in a lab, and many don't have a diploma or a degree lol.
If someone that works in a lab or hospital, they would have a mask on, face Shield when they come for a visit.
Some many people love to claim, how much thet make aswell.

For the longest time I'd just tell escorts who asked me about my work that I had a job in the IT department of some bank. Mostly because I was paranoid about the legality of what I was doing and wanted to create some plausible deniability, in retrospect I doubt it would have made any difference. Now I just don't care anymore

How long does the data live, and who has access to it? This would appear to be in the same category as Flock cameras.

I had a friend who was like this. He just could not stop telling bullshit stories about himself. If you swam the English Channel and told him about it, he'd immediately tell you he did it twice.

The most bizarre thing is, it was always white lies -- just silly stuff.

When it came to serious things, he'd me honest to a fault -- and he'd never lie to get out of trouble. He put a tiny scuff on another friend's parked car once when he was backing up, and he immediately owned up to it and insisted on paying for the damage, even though it was nothing. Could never figure this guy out.

I just find that adds stress to ones life in general. No need to lie and live a stress free life. I have no issues in talking about my job, some SP know what I do, some never ask as we talk about other things but in general no lies of any colour. Stress free fantasy loving environment.

Years ago I was seeing an SP semi regularly about 2 to three times a year and we had a couple of off the clock moments (meals, rides home) and she emailed me (yes that is the way we connected back then) and she had found me on LinkedIn - I was OK as she I knew her really name and she had told me about her civie career. Since then I am much more careful about telling anyone about where I work etc. This may be why some people lie but I never understand why they create such elaborate stories.
