Lost all motivation to pursue women after discovering hobbying.

I've hobbied off and on for longer than most of you have been alive.

There is nothing that comes close to an intimate relationship with a woman based on trust and common purpose/interests.

Hobbying should be a waystation not a destination. You are virtually guaranteeing yourself a life of loneliness and isolation if you choose hookers as your only interaction with women. It may not be now, but it will be in the future. You also inevitably start to see women as holes, tight pussies, and bodies, not as human beings.

Go look at stats of men who are alone in their later years versus men who have partners. It's not pretty for men who are alone.

There are no free lunches in whatever you choose in life, and for however long. Yes paid sex, much like dating apps, promise frictionless access to pussy. Great, what then? What happens after you scratch that itch for a year or two? You become transactional, critical, and stop being open to reciprocal relationship, which is where the soul lives. Just like hookers being changed by the transaction of paid sex, men are also changed–and neither for the better.

I've put up Wilt Chamberlain numbers in my life. But nothing beats good sex with a woman you love. The narcotic of that is impossible to calculate. I'm glad I put up numbers, but I'm also glad I grew up and have always had serious relationships.

Being disciplined about using hookers is the best thing you can do for yourself. There's nothing like hitting a stunner to revitalize your senses and feel more alive. But going from one paid encounter to another because you're terrified of risking intimacy become pathetic the more time goes on. Look at Leonardo DiCaprio: everyone thought he was a champ for hitting younger and younger women. Now he looks like a sad, older, mostly unattractive guy that can't meet a serious woman on her level. Pathetic, really.

us poor men have been hard done by for centuries lol..
You are mixing the marriage scene from different time periods. What you both are saying can be true in different timeperiod for different genders. The dynamics have changes in the recent century and is evolving.

Agreed! Very well articulated as well. I think most people who advocate for marriage either got lucky and found a great partner, while overlooking how much luck played a role, or they had a solid prenup.

If you look at the odds of the gamble in today’s dating scene, it becomes difficult to motivate someone to pursue marriage if they don’t already have a potential partner.
I think you are underestimating the basic human desire for a person to want everyone to be just like them. It is reinforced by society’s emphasis on family life.

The same way Catholics like everyone to be part of the Catholic Community and Red Sox fans want a large Red Sox nation.

A lot of married guys simply think that all guys should get married, regardless of how happy those married guys are.

Agreed with this as well. This is the best case. I think many of us who are against marriage also agree to it.

Its just that one has to realize if the gamble to get an amazing woman who will last decades without losing your assets is worth it or a predictable interaction with hookers.

I belive most people dont even think about it or have realized the choice and have assumed marrying the only option one needs to take. Now being aware of these options, the best path would boil down to the nature of the person. Optimistic person would take the gamble and pessimistic ones will minimize the risk.

On you hobbying before we were born:
I really appreciate all the experienced people sharing their hard-earned lessons with younglings like us! I also wonder whether the age gap plays a role - perhaps having lived through a different dating landscape makes it harder to appreciate just how much the odds and risks have changed in today’s dating market.

Are you guys on drugs? WTF is wrong with you? Marriage or common law should not be in the cards. Most marriages are unsuccessful: about 50% end in divorce and another 10% to 30% are long but unhappy marriages. And the family court system is very anti-male. In a divorce you will lose the house, your other assets and your money and worst of all, you will lose custody of your kids. The failure rate of marriages in which the bride was a virgin on her wedding night is only about 4%. Good luck finding a virgin to marry. And dating should also not be in the cards. If the girl gets mad at you, she can cry rape. If she is desperate, she might get pregnant to force you into marriage.
The family court system is not anti-male anymore. I got divorced in 2024 and everything, including the marital home, was split down the middle. It was my fucking retirement money (equalization payment) that I got destroyed on.

The 50% thing isn't actually true. It's more like 1/3rd. And divorce rates have been declining since the 80s, after divorce laws were more liberal. In heterosexual marriages, the average married couple rate their relationship between 8.5 and 8.3 out of ten, for male and female respectively, and both genders are consistently happier than their unmarried counterparts. The truth is that there is no better time to marry than now for both genders.

Yes, it has been changing over time but I believe the 1980s was a pivotal moment for many reasons.
In all these forums, you will always get older "I never had a problem" guys.

For someone like me I like to look at it the opposite way. Growing up my whole life I was told I was attractive and handsome, but always had trouble with women. Maybe it was due to the lack of my social environment.
But as a mid 30 year old who has had relationships and has been seeing escorts on and off since 20s, every good escort experience has actually helped my desire to improve myself and my ability to get woman on that same physical level of attractiveness. I really don’t want to pay $400 every time until the end of my life cause it doesn’t take a genius to realize this hobby is a black hole financially. Yes, I’ve had civie gf’s, but simply not on that level that I’m now used to. And then I had one serious relationship where marriage was definitely an option, and the physical attraction was decent, but the sex was just not on the level that I was used to with escorts. And it was nothing about her performance (she was a nympho) , our bodies just didn’t click and there was no chemistry. You can’t negotiate desire I learned. I remember banging one SP during the tail end of that relationship as it was falling apart, and thinking to myself, “man if the sex at home felt like this, I would have married her by now”. And I wasn’t naive- marriage is “for life” but not really. You have maybe 15-20 years before you just tolerate each other, less if your unlucky. But even the thought of having sex like that available for the next 15 -20 years made me think “yea id be satisfied with that tradeoff of getting married

Divorce rates have declined steadily because fewer people are marrying overall, couples are waiting longer to get married, and those that marry are more financially stable and selective.

The happiness thing is often cited, and like most religious/conservative sayings, is actually quite misleading.

As a follow-up on my initial post, I did go from a session with a provider to a civvie date a couple times.

In an ideal world, a romantic relationship, marriage, and children give one purpose, meaning, and legacy. Things you can't really get from even the hottest escort. The problem now is that govt involvement/courts, social duties, incentives (ie "you aren't a real man until you're married"), norms, etc. are all out of wack.

To be honest getting to sleep with beautiful women with no effort has really messed with my head. I have friends taller handsome and richer than me jumping through hoops to spoil their ugly old gfs, taking them to fancy dinners and dates, buying them gifts and going on vacations, but I can't be bothered knowing sex with a girl 10x hotter who'll make you feel like a god is just a phonecall away.
Realistically my looks are below average. My civvie "match" is going to be an ugly woman. But in the hobbying world, I can ACTUALLY sleep with that 21 year old smokeshow. How can I ever go back and accept a normal life supporting an ugly wife?
I've lost all motivation to improve my personal life, career, fitness, and social skills.
So everything you’ve said is understandable short term. But in the long term, hobbling can be addictive and losing one’s health , fitness, and effort to become desirable will eventually put you into a depression. You should never give up on your own self improvement. You still have to look in the mirror and be happy with who you see. At least that’s how I feel.

There's a blog post from a statistician about this with a bunch of other sources.

I don't think it's misleading at all. Married people are markedly happier than unmarried people, but it's not necessarily the cause of happiness. Getting married itself is quite a risk for anyone, so the bare minimum required is that the other person has reached a point in their life where they are at least mentally sound and reasonably happy. Being single does not require any of that.

The really important point is what marriage is about. It's fundamentally about family formation, not self satisfaction. A lot of people are either not aware of it or don't seem to bring this up.

That "man up" thing is hilarious. Raise your voice and she will call the cops.
