Iran has overplayed its hand

A mechanism had been established to resolve disputes during the 60 days the MOU was supposed to be in effect.
Instead of using that mechanism, Iran shot at vessels transiting the Strait on the Omani side, blowing up the MOU.
That was the point I switched my allegiance. Happily.
The MOU said EXPLICITLY that Iran would manage transit through the straits and the US tried to circumvent it, sending seamen into harms way as pawns in their little game. Now Iran says they won't talk and the straits will remain closed until Trump leaves office in 2029...so we shall see I guess. He already surrendered to the Taliban, and then to the Houthis. He will now be defeated by Iran and then Russia. What a goddam mega loser.

Did america end sanctions and free the billions of Iranian money they are holding?
Did Israel stop bombing Lebanon?

Those were some of the first items of the MOU.

Doesn't matter now, Iran doesn't really care what trump does, they control the Hormuz now.
Looks like about $20 million in tariffs yesterday

Yes, the US was at fault. But a mechanism had been established to deal with disputes. No need to fire on vessels IMO for 60 days and 60 days only.

BTW, the price of oil at the moment tells us the world is learning to deal without oil going through the Strait. So let Iran continue to lose $500 million a day

Yes, America ended sanctions on Iranian oil allowing them to sell to anyone and receiving payment in US dollars. By one account, that alone increased their net revenue by 25%.

Are you that oblivious or just playing dumb?

The rest were to be negotiated step by step according to the MOU. Rome was not built in a day. Educate yourself

When did they end those sanctions?
When did Israel stop attacking Lebanon.

america broke the MOU first.
america started the war.
america lost it.

What mechanism was established? It was a bullshit mechanism. When the ships try and pass dark you know the are breaking the agreement. Qatar just sent Iran BILLIONS and they made a lot of money during the pause. Oil prices are a fiction, but I would guess the world can easily cut around 12m bbls a day of consumption. But diesel and aviation fuel are getting critical

You cant make this up:

Iran struck the oil-carrying vessel Minoan Pioneer off the Oman coast on August 3. Waves carried leaking oil back to Iranian coast, contaminating hundreds of kilometers.

Iran is now claiming compensation for the damage it caused. Hilarious

Here's the thing: Iran can ask for the moon. Doesn't mean they'll get it. Trump can demand they re-open the Strait immediately...doesn't mean it'll happen.

I cannot pretend to have a crystal ball and accurately see how this will end. But Trump stepped in a big, festering pile of shit here....and there is no easy way to clean this up. We've seen that pounding Iran with bombs and missiles hasn't changed things. The blockade is certainly hurting them....but hasn't really changed anything. As we get closer to September with no end in sight, Iran will gain more leverage. You got to hand it to those bastards, they understand the fact that bombing a country doesn't give you control of it...and Trump will not put boots on the ground, which would make his situation even worse than it is now.

I've said repeatedly that I think Trump is obsessed with his legacy. Maybe he sees the writing on the wall and knows that historians will not be kind. After his first term, he really did nothing of consequence, besides balloon the debt with tax cuts for the rich...So, now he is working over time to leave his imprint. I honestly think that's why he was so keen on annexing Canada, Greenland and Panama. He could argue that he expanded the US in a way no other president had, at least since Jefferson did the Louisiana Purchase, or Johnson bought Alaska...It's why he wants his name on the Kennedy Centre, or on the dollar bills and passports. It's why he is so focused on building a ballroom or that arch. Most of these things are failures. Big swings, massive misses.

But the worst one: Iran. He legitimately thought he'd be able to take out Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the country would just fold like a cheap suit. He believed Israel, that the Iranian people would rise up against the regime once the bombs started to fall. He thought he could do what no President had done, and take out Iran. It was simplistic, almost child like thinking that led us to this point.

But the reality is, Trump is FUCKED. There is little chance that he can save face and spin this as a win. He already basically gave Iran what they wanted back in June (for the most part). He can't force them to surrender (unless he sends in troops, but good luck getting congress or even MAGA to support that) so he really can't dictate terms. Iran, to a greater extent, can. They can probably hold out longer than Trump. And, as mentioned, as we get closer to November, the pressure will be ratcheted up on the GOP. Now, will there be a Blue Wave come November? Again, I don't have a crystal ball. I remember four years ago when there was a lot of big talk about a Red Wave hitting Biden, and it didn't really materialize. But, I think there is a stronger chance the Dems take control of both houses, and then they can really put the screws to Trump. Big investigations, legislation ending the tariffs, reigning in his executive powers, something the GOP congress had no stomach to do...

You know, squeeze, the most shocking thing is that he was elected again despite what everyone knew about him.

He proclaimed loudly he was going to bring tariffs. And experts warned it would cost Americans. Didnt matter. They still voted for him. And so many other things that would have disqualified other politicians

I wasn't shocking really. The first was more imo. Kamala was incredibly unpopular, mood of the nation was bad, it was two bad choices, and still a close race.

And Americans are dumb assed, and lots of vindictive, racist, selfish people, especially amongst their Boomer generation.

Yup, the one thing they didn't bet on was a new war, which Trumpshart said never would happen under his watch, and claiming voting for Kamala would bring on an Iranian war.

Dumb, dumb, dumb MAGA and Trump voters believing he would be their savior.

Not really that shocking.
Incumbents had been battered in just about every country post-COVID.
The media has long decided to take it easy on Trump.
Plus, racism, sexism, and authoritarianism has a strong and consistent base of support in the USA.
