Anyone try a cereal they loved as a kid and it was at least close to what you remember??

I'm still guilty of every so often buying Rice Krispies and covering it with some chocolate syrup with the added bonus of having chocolate milk when the cereal is finished. It's a guilty pleasure 😩

Growing up, once or twice a year my parents would cave and let me select a Variety Pack . . . 10 single-serving boxes of some of the sweetest cereals on the market. Back then the front of each box was scored so you could cut it with a knife, fold back the two flaps, add milk, and eat it right out of the box. No bowl needed. They still make Variety Packs but these days half of the boxes are "healthy" cereals and if you try to pour milk into the box it leaks out all over the place. So I stick with my Shredded Wheat, softened with boiling water, drained, then enjoyed with milk and brown sugar. It hasn't changed over the years.

My parents grew up during the depression, so they were cheap bastards.

They bought puffed wheat which was dirt cheap and came in huge bags you could put your hockey gear in and would last at least a month.

Puffed wheat now comes in small bags and is super expensive.
My Grandma ate that stuff like candy.

As a kid I always felt that cocoa pebbles did the best job of the lot in giving you a chocolate milk finish...

When I was a kid I'd eat Cap'n Cruch. It stayed crunchy in milk and I wanted a Smedley of my own. Even named one of my dogs after him.

Oh absolutely but there's just always something so nostalgic about the combo of plain Rice Krispies a bowl of milk and covered in some Nesquik. It's like a blast from my childhood every time so I love it

Further to your comment, to complete the parents were cheap pricks scenario, have your puffed wheat with powdered milk. Not good times.

On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
Kellogg's Frosted Flakes.

They're still grrreat!
Yes I had frosted flakes as a kid with banana slices on top.

All that sugar no wonder I was bouncing off the walls at school with energy...Too much..ADHD and all.

Kept the dentists in business as well I figure, lol.

The most recent cereal nostalgia trip I took was trying Crispix again. It fared well to how I remembered it. Unfortunately, one of my memories as a kid with the cereal wasn’t as pleasant. My immigrant dad thought all caucasian food was a monolith (and he disregarded the letters on the box due to not knowing English). So he bought me Shreddies instead. This is not to bad mouth him. It is more to show how people from third world countries don’t really have processed foods, and therefore they don’t have this oligopoly of various brands. As a result, they come out as ignorant when in a country that only sells processed foods.

@Ahri don't know if you did this but I'd focus on the non marshmallows first, leaving a batch of nothing but marshmallows at then end to really stick the hyperglycemic landing! Lol.
And just one sugar box on the weekend then lots of weet-bix during the week.
Loool I’m the opposite I eat all the marshmallows first then eat all the rest up with the cereal milk 🤤

After reading this thread it makes me wanna try coco puffs again lol

frosted flakes with banana slices on top sounds absolutely incredible I don't think i could ever even come up with that combo on my own but I'll be damned if it doesn't sound delicious

Because this thread is relevant to cereal, I’m trying to think of a very modern TV commercial (that aired/airs on public access networks like CityTV) that involves the camera rotating around family members at the table as they eat said cereal. There’s text that says what each member has to do for the day (math test, laundry, etc) and it gradually rotates faster. I feel foolish forgetting what the brand was already and Google ain’t helping me. Anyone regular tv viewer know what it was?

By contrast, another modern commercial would have the character pondering if he was still peaking and Google easily identified it as Oatmeal Crisp. So it was only helpful there.
