When I was looking to reduce my rates (house & car) I dealt with all of them and even some I can't remember anymore. There were a couple that had marginally lower rates (about $100-200) but not enough for me to make the switch while maintaining the coverage I have. I'll agree that direct companies have some advantages but even they have their issues...inconsistent in what they know when you talk to them is the biggest issue IMO.Yeah it definitely sucks.
If you’re with a brokerage it might be best to try a direct company such as TD, RBC, Belair, pc, Allstate, desjardins etc...and vice versa (if you’re with a direct company, maybe try a brokerage). Direct companies can be a little annoying to deal with since it’s a call centre set up, so you might be waiting for a bit and not really talking to the same person. But their price might outweigh service.
You can find decent insurance rates, you’ll have to do the work on your own.
Brokers for the most part won’t bother checking their other companies until you start complaining.
Direct companies, they only have one rate, so you’ll have to shop around every year with other companies.
Packaging home and auto doesn’t really always these days since home prices suck (I’m around $2200/year on home insurance).
If you have an older car, you can take all the coverage for that car off and raise you deductible. When I was looking to reduce my rates (house & car) I dealt with all of them and even some I can't remember anymore. And congrats Ahri, you're one of the few lucky ones if your rates are going down the last 3 years.

Newer car so all coverages stay in place for at least 3 more years. After that I'll have to make decisions about what coverages I drop and if practical to do so. It's just in the last 3-5 years I've had rate increases that you'd only expect if you caused a car crash. My deductible is at the max already. But it's not just car insurance it's also home insurance too. And I know many others experience this too.If you have an older car, you can take all the coverage for that car off and raise you deductible.
I see. Mine has gone down slightly in the last year. Currently $ 55.00 a month for auto/home combo. Older car. I hardly drive and walk to work. I think it would be cheaper, but I asked them to put first accident forgiveness coverage last year and I raised the liability to 2 million from 1 millon years back.Newer car so all coverages stay in place for at least 3 more years. What's most annoying is hearing how the insurance companies cry about how much money their paying out/losing, yet their bottom line has very healthy profits.
