Many STIs have incubation periods long enough to give a false sense of safety. Even a full panel test can provide a false negative if taken too soon.
You can catch syphilis in June, get tested in July and show negative, then pass it along to someone in August with the clean test results in your hand and an infection that's only starting to take effect and perhaps even unnoticed.
