What percent of women do sex work?

When I first met escorts, I used to think they all have a certain look to them. But I realized they are literally like anyone you can meet in public, in a workplace, in your neighborhood etc

I genuinely didn't expect that escorts would actually have full conversations, wear the same clothes as "civilians", have the same hobbies as "civilians" etc. I thought escorts mainly just wore expensive brands, and their hobbies might include stuff like clubbing or something idk. I also expected them to be super rude and cruel to men (even though that goes against the business model). I thought they "hated" men.

The point is, I didn't expect that escorts were involved in the "civilian" world

So since an escort could be ANYONE you see on the street, and not the stereotypical look - what percent of women do sex work?

If a man gets a girlfriend in the civilian world, what's the chance she is an escort?

I believe a fairly high percentage of viable women have tried it at least once. Online sex work included. As for ongoing sex work, a lower percentage.

Similar to when people start a business and last 2 weeks, 2 years, or 2 decades etc, the percentage diminishes depending on the time scope.

I would think extremely low.

Think of the female population of the GTA. The population as of December 2025 of the GTA is a bit over 7,000,000.

So let's say the female population is a bit over 50%, and just call it 3,500,000

So if there are even 2,000 escorts in the GTA, still alive, and either current or past sex workers, which I doubt, that would be .0006%.

1% would be 35,000 sex workers.

Nah, a lot of these insta baddies are sugar babies.

And I've dated baddies, they expect their boyfriends to pay for their nails, lashes, hair ($800+), and sometimes their rent/car payments. The difference though, is that they're actually just banging you. Not banging 20+ guys a week.
you think? maybe before 2012 but now?

I understand your math but to many holes.

Is that for 2025 only or how about last year or 10 years ago when the person had a year of fling. We will never know the true answer.

I searched this info about Netherlands / Canada

No, the Dutch government does not have an exact, official count of how many sex workers operate in the country. Estimates generally range between 15,000 and 30,000. While prostitution was legalized in 2000, mandatory national registration for sex workers failed to pass, and police are restricted from logging worker identities during routine checks. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Why There Is No Exact Count
    • Decentralized rules: Local municipalities manage sex work permits independently rather than through a single national database. [1]
    • Privacy laws: Law enforcement cannot compile permanent lists of individuals working in a legal trade unless a specific crime is suspected. [1]
    • Unregulated sectors: A significant portion of the industry operates via independent escorts, online platforms, or unlicensed spaces outside official records. [, 2, 3, 4]

Government and Academic Estimates
    • Licensed vs. Unlicensed: Research commissioned by the Ministry of Justice suggests roughly two-thirds of workers operate in licensed venues, with the remaining third in unregistered or informal settings. []
    • Broad ranges: Official evaluations and international bodies like UNAIDS frequently cite a wide aggregate estimate of 15,000 to 25,000 active individuals.

The population of the Netherlands is approximately 18.47 million people, based on recent United Nations and national statistics
The Netherlands has an estimated total population of about 18.4 million people. The population is split very evenly, with about 49.7% male (approx. 9.15 million) and 50.3% female (approx. 9.25 million), meaning women make up a slightly larger share of the total population.

Lmao, now every girl is selling it.
In one form or another. It's all about language and perception or how are we willing to admit it or accept it. It's been around since the beginning of time.

When was the first Dating website up and Dating app up or activate online live?

Lavalife is an online dating and social networking platform founded in 1987 with the slogan "Where singles click"

Early Online Milestones
    • 1994 (Kiss.com): Started as a basic web project allowing users to post profiles and connect.
    • 1995 (Match.com): Launched publicly as a commercial subscription service, paving the way for modern digital romance.
    • 2000 (eHarmony): Introduced deep psychological questionnaires and compatibility matching algorithms.
So this is when it all started.

Not sure about sex work, but I recall reading that a shocking percentage of Hungarian women have starred in porno films.
Yes and that pizza delivery guys and dryer repair guys getting tons of tail out in North America ...lol.

BTW, the Canadian graphic suggest only about 15% of the population are women between 19-40. Thus estimating the percentage of women who enter the biz will be most likely to come from that segment. So 30m x15% means 4.5 m. 1% of the 4.5m = 45,000.
Anyhow, some context upon which to speculate. Someone can correct the actual Canadian population numbers.

Population of
Toronto only = 3.3million
3,300,000 x15% means 495,000. 1% of the 495,000. = 4,950 women in TO may be SW?

But
Women+ category: 1,443,490 residents (52%) in Toronto
1,443,490 x 15% means 216,523. 1% of 216,523 = 2165 SW?

Best way to know is to ask Admin here how many are Paid SW. That will give us a ball park figure.

Now you can take the info below and see the population age groups

Yes to men. No to women.
So, you're saying men paid for sex but women did not receive any payment for the same sex.

Who was I quoting?
Women deny anything ever happened, she was not a SW, or FWB, or Promiscuous, just confused. Or she only had fun. Or doesn't remember anything.
