I wandered into Esta Chocolates one grey and rainy Tuesday
To buy some sugar and create new sins in cocoa-rich buffet
“Sweet Mistakes” was twelve bucks flat
A warning, a named label, just for SD me, fancy that.
I bought the bag, both stout and thick
This sacrament for diabetics
Then through the window, like a sign
Sent straight from realms beyond divine
I saw Hush across the way,
And thought, “My spine deserves to pray”
I phoned them up. “Can you fit me?”
“In forty five minutes.” “Perfect,” said nameless she
For what is time but heaven’s grace
To stuff more chocolate in my face?
So I stood outside in sweet repose
I guiltily shoveled truffles by the rows
Caramels, creams, and cocoa bliss
Performed a dark exorcist’s kiss
The sugar surged, my pupils crossed
Too fast, my blood-stream briefly spoke in gloss
Hypoxia. The stars appeared. My pulse grew thin
I nearly met the seraphim.
At last the time came around
I laboured the stairs without a sound.
The doors swung wide and there she stood,
A dusky, gorgeous angel carved from wood
And smoke and velvet midnight air
With shoulder-length curly and chaotic hair
Her deep, dancing eyes descended into mine
Like miners searching and breaching ancient mines
I softly breathed and whispered, “Dear God above,
Please let you be the woman to knead me with love.”
A silence hung. She leaned in slow
With 9th circle hellfire simmering below.
“I own this temple, I know exactly who you are, Speaker.
And just because I can, it's her - not me - who’ll see you now.
I've cancelled your appointment. You may leave…
Or meet the new girl. I think you’ll like her somehow.”
Oops. Well damn, I did it again. A proper Hobson’s Choice.
I sighed agreement with my voice.
Then to the room I slunk my way
Stripped down to baby-blue and yellow duckies array.
I waited there, both tense and bare
Existential in my underwear.
I glanced down once. Looked up again
Then heaven walked the halls of men.
The hallway light behind her burned
Like every lost cathedral yearned
To frame this Aphrodite bright
This Beatrice dressed up in light
Her charm, her beauty, endless grace,
The quiet wonder in her face
My heart, long racing, racing through the wild
Shocked and shuddered, suddenly redeemed and mild
With one slow sweep she raised her hand
Toward the table. I obeyed command
Shivered, quivered as she touched my neck and spine
I swear the bells of heaven chimed
She took all my money and my last my cigarette
And Lord, that wasn’t half what's to come yet
For she led me to that healing river
Where weary souls and backs both shiver
She washed me down in oily, holy rain
Wrung out the sorrow and soothed my pain
For she cleansed my soul, restored my ground
Then set both my wandering feet back down
Far too quickly then this hour had passed
For no mere mortal joy is built to last
I opened weary eyes to speak
But she had vanished yet again, swift and sleek
Supine I lamented, and somehow deep inside my brain
I felt I’d somehow known her in the past; twice, thrice, now once again.
As though through lifetimes dim and far
I’d chased the fleeting echo of this ex-Ambition star.
/*For really, for those that were looking beyond the trivia
Should have recognized the name and description at Hush
For at Ambition, she was once that hot blonde
Olivia
And now, still so great & awesome, MY GOD, she's a rush*/
So home I walked through rain, newly baptized
The city wavered, shimmered, blurred before my eyes
The rain washed shame, the rain washed pain
The rain makes me and all things clean again
And somewhere in that silver weather
I smiled and whispered, soft as ever:
“Yes… If I can, I think I might see Madison again.”
[edit; but now that you MFers know, I'll NEVER get an appointment....]
