How does Toronto compare to Montreal?

There was a thread on Merb comparing both with the idea that Toronto is more expensive and incall locations are more further apart, but there is more diversity? Is that correct? It seems Montreal is mostly local Quebec providers and also Middle Eastern providers. Not really any real Europeans, Latin Americans or Russian/Ukrainian/Polish.

Pretty much hit it on the head. We are a larger more diverse city and its reflected.

Yes, Toronto is a lot more diverse and there is a lot more to choose from. Everything from the Allegra agency that has beautiful ladies who offer alt/kink, to Wetlands and their Asian / South American massage line-ups, to traditional agencies like Discrete Dolls.

I mention Discrete Dolls because Montreal is mostly a bunch of agencies like that but with mostly all late 20s to early 40s Quebec ladies offering very routine GFE. I have two independent favorites in Montreal that I love and see whenever I can get there, but I prefer Toronto as a tourist because there is more to choose from. Montreal in my opinion currently has kind of a boring scene and it is mentioned less than it once was in discussions of tourism for this activity.

The decline in the Montreal scene from a tourist perspective, in my opinion, stemmed from the end of the Eleganza agency. It was cookie-cutter like the agencies are now, but those were some delicious cookies. They were mostly a group of 18-25 year olds starting college or vocational training. For a decade or so, they consistently found the world’s hottest group of GFE “college girls”.

Another guy who appreciates Toronto on ISG asked why Americans don’t get to Toronto for this activity as much as they probably should, and I had no answer. With Niagara, and the Islands, and a much cleaner mini-Manhattan as a downtown, it is a great place. I think Americans like to think of going to Montreal as going to “mini-France”, but if so, that only lasts for a trip or two. And Montreal went corporate like so much of North America. There are fewer independently owned little restaurants and shops than a decade ago in Montreal. Toronto actually has more of that type of thing in its many large ethnic neighborhoods, especially the ones with great middle-eastern food. Montreal doesn’t have those types of large ethnic neighborhoods, and it shows up in the lack of diversity in its sex work scene.

I find the French quebecer ladies to be beautiful and accommodating.

Yes it does appear as if most are 25+ but there's something to be said about the convenience of the top 3 large agencies' in calls and some indys' in calls all within a 15 minute walk of each other. I'm looking at Toronto and they are all over the place. And yes in Montreal, all the girls seem to catered to "mass audience/generic" appeal. No really alt/goth, egirl, anime/cosplay types or expressions of individualism. The funny thing is that there is no actual Europeans at all. Even the "French" ladies all turn out to be North African.

What I'm unclear of is that even some providers say Torontonians are more "generous" and "rich" and the rates reflect that. Is it that much more expensive?

Not sure they are the two best cities to compare, honestly. I read in a travel book years ago that Toronto and Montreal people really, really don’t like each other. Not as in Europe where they have good-natured soccer rivalries, but as in Toronto and Montreal people really, really don’t like each other.

Yes, Toronto is more expensive than Montreal. Paris is more expensive than Lisbon, but complaining about any of it is the proverbial old man shakes fist at cloud. I don’t intend this to be a slight to sex workers, because they are naturally, wonderfully apolitical from the moment they start in the business, even if that is the day they turn 18. But Montreal folks online have some ‘tude as the saying goes. No one on Terb complains about tourists, particularly Americans, driving up sex work prices, but that was a constant complaint online with Montreal posters. So it should come as no surprise that the first thing they would have to say about Toronto is that the prices are higher. Incomes are much lower in Montreal, so they are more price-conscious.

But once again, the girls in Montreal are great. However, for some of the most perverted amongst us (like me), the magic went away as the prices even there went up. One of the first times I ever went there, I saw an 18-year old who roller-bladed to my hotel for like a ridiculously small amount of money. It was late summer and she had just moved to Montreal from a small Quebec village to start college that fall. For the second cum in the session, after some great BBBJ, she asked if she could finish me by hand because she liked to watch it squirt out.

And you mentioned goth/alt. Montreal used to be a first class city for that. My favorite Darla was the goth goddess, but she exclusively does Onlyfans now. The legendary Jasmine introduced Montreal to kink by having kink Sunday sessions, and soon after there were at least six wonderful ladies offering kink. A couple of independents still heavily offer that, and they are fantastic, but it just isn’t advertised in the mainstream way it was a decade or so ago. And there were some independent stunners such as Elena (she technically advertised as an agency for marketing purposes, but it was just her) who weren’t any more expensive than ladies with agencies.

I just don’t read reviews or hear stories like that anymore in Montreal. I believe Montreal has a new agency that is getting some great reviews, and it is certainly still better than anywhere in the U.S., and a thousand times safer than anywhere south of the U.S. border. But if you have the money, Toronto has such a great diverse selection, that I would give it a try along with Montreal over time and see which one you like best. If you have the money, I personally give the overall edge to Toronto at the moment.

And speaking of ‘Tude, you get far fewer questions at the Airport border entering Canada in Toronto than Montreal.

There is a residual animosity from separation times. Obviously the politics although Montreal voted no. But the city was supposed to be the Economic hub of Canada. The banks headquartered there, short run to Ottawa. Cosmopolitan world city vibe, bilingual.

Then the separation crisis and the core economic headquarters moved to Toronto. And with it the money, financial services and various startups. Montreal just stopped growing.

That loss is a part of the animosity. We became what was their origional promise of the future.

We are more expensive because we are the Big Boy. Its that simple.

From a provider's perspective, Toronto is much different in terms of working conditions for us. Although I'm grateful for having wonderful clients, I think the culture around sex work in Montreal is very toxic in many ways, and I've enjoyed working in other cities much better. In Montreal the rates are lower than everywhere else but the expectations are very high. I've also noticed that there is a higher degree of resentment towards providers in general here. A lot of providers from Montreal only work in other cities like Toronto or Vancouver, or they have literally moved to those cities because the working conditions were difficult here. A lot of providers refuse to tour to Montreal. There's a reason for it. When I visit Toronto, I always have very nice and polite clients.. They don't push my boundaries or do weird things like talking obsessively about other providers and about the industry. I've also found the scene to be way less cliquey.

I use to go Montreal on business at least once a month between 2000 and 2015. I would book a room at the Nelligan or Place d'Armes. Quickly my favorite Agency/group became French Kiss Society. Which was run, for the most part, by Giselle but was sort of like a Co-Op. Man they had the best women, hot, classy and open-minded. Nothing like it in Toronto back then.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Montreal is more of a party city than Toronto.

It was a long time ago, but one Eleganza provider told me at the end of the session that I should have no problem getting it for free in Montreal and listed three or so bars to check out. I assured her that she had sufficiently worn me out for the evening.

When I would wait for the 747 bus for a 6 am flight, I was amazed at the number of cars with partiers driving by and hanging out of sunroofs singing. Like do you people not have school or work to go to in an hour or two?

I had a Montreal agency Devilish call to substitute for a lady I really wanted to see because the lady was “just way too drunk to send over”. The substitute wasn’t that great session-wise, but she was a sweet girl who said she did her last session at 3 am, went home to have breakfast with her dog, took him for a morning walk, then crashed until the afternoon.

And one thing that always bugged me about Montreal online posters was the hostility and derision directed to younger guys who are Johns.

The combination of those experiences makes me think it is a party city with a lot of ”free” sex available, especially to younger people, and the local Johns (particularly the older ones) might have bad attitudes about paying for it. Of course all that partying doesn’t exactly help with being a high-earning city for workers, so many have themselves to blame. So I suspect those lifestyles, attitudes and lack of disposable income contribute to not making it the most desirable city for sex workers to work in, compared to Toronto or Vancouver.

Montreal is a party city, it's true, but I think a big part of it is that the rent here used to be cheap, and it's no longer the case. People used to move to Montreal to party. I was born and raised in Montreal, I'm not here to party. I don't know if there is ''free sex'' available here more than anywhere else. I know what the culture was like here in the past, and I don't think ''free sex'' should mean picking up a girl who's black out drunk and fucking her fully knowing she won't remember what happened the next day, or super high and on another planet..

I have seen people make hostile comments about younger Johns everywhere, not just in Montreal. And maybe there is a reason why that happens.. because it's a party city, a lot of people don't take us seriously. Even today, somebody booked me impulsively and then cancelled a few hours later. This happens very frequently, but not as much when I tour.

It's not my problem that people perceive Montreal as a city where you SUPPOSEDLY can get cheap or free sex. I should be able to get treated well and compensated fairly and appreciated for the services I offer, if you see what I mean. I don't think clients here lack disposable income necessarily, but they come here because they know escorts have less boundaries and offer cheaper services. Montreal has a reputation, and it works against us.. So many of us raise our rates and make ourselves less available, or we move away. I am not worth less than somebody in Vancouver or Toronto.

It does carry that reputation for decades. I used to road trip with buddies at least once a year. And had great success. Also did a few stags. Its a common place for USA based stags and university trips as well. At least it was.

The girls really were down to party. Civilians, strippers, and escorts. I will add just ask anyone here about the French girls at Fantasia club in its heyday. It was legendary.

Sadly, I feel this is true.
Montreal really spun more and more toxic over the years on this. (And I think that also is part of what Patron is talking about concerning the drop in the more diverse and more individualistic providers.)

What about Strip clubs? I found the women to be very beautiful but upcharged everything to the point it was ridiculous

But that was years ago. What is it like now?

Maybe there's a reason why the girls were down to party. Partying doesn't mean consenting to sex, and in the past 10 years it came to light in my circle of friends that a lot of men had taken advantage of them while they were partying. A lot of people who moved to Montreal due to it's reputation as a party city went back to their home towns or the city they initially lived in as well.

Sadly, I feel this is true.

I'm really wondering what you mean by ''more individualistic provider'' .. because as far as I'm concerned, from what I hear, providers in Toronto allow themselves to upcharge, have certain boundaries and do things that here, we would be criticized for endlessly. What are we supposed to do? Do everything the client says and charge almost nothing? Like I said, a lot of providers I know who lived in Montreal left the city. I also know providers who only work in other cities, which might be me in the future.

It's easy to put the fault on providers, instead of looking at how toxic the whole scene in general is. Pimps, exploitative employers and clients who love to gossip, coerce and push boundaries are also to blame.. In order to keep some of my clients, I have to do things I would never have done in the past. I'm not talking about ''unsafe services'' but other things that I frankly don't feel like doing and make me uncomfortable. Some Merb users have called me a client hater because I called out some behavior that is harmful to providers, but strangely, I don't see a lot of these types of behaviors nearly as much in other cities. Even Ottawa, which has a pretty negative reputation among providers, is nothing compared to how bad Montreal is and has gotten.

I wonder if the toxic scene you're describing is the slippery slope that led to that Montreal agency's operators being charged.

Are you talking about one specific agency? I have friends who have worked for agencies in Toronto. The working conditions are much better, they were paid better wages and had more choices for what they wanted to do in terms of service. I have never worked for an agency, but in Montreal, the rates remain very low for the year we're in, there is a lot of exploitation and employers are often welcoming of clients that nobody wants to see. Some clients who were banned by multiple providers in agencies keep getting service, they are often not made accountable. I even have been told by many providers that clients nobody wants to see in Ontario come to Montreal because the boundaries here are looser and the rates are lower.

This is only my 5th year in the industry but I've talked to many people who have been here longer than I. I have heard many stories. When I started touring last year, I've also observed how different the culture is elsewhere when it comes to SW. Review board culture absolutely has to do with it as well. It is extremely strong in Montreal. Meanwhile, on Terb, there are so many users that everything kinda gets lost. It doesn't feel like a tight knit community of users who share information about everybody in the ''back channels''.

I know, I followed this story from the beginning. It's been discussed ad nauseam. I just have friends who worked for that agency and they really did not enjoy it. We knew why it was shut down, when it happened. Personally, I just think that this seems like a surprise or an exception to clients, but agencies in Montreal are generally exploitative and shitty. From my perspective, agencies own the sex industry in many ways because they dictate rates and services we have to offer. Even if I charge higher, I still have to conform myself to a lot of standards that were decided by the agencies. I find that in other cities, nowadays, there is a bigger difference between indy clients and agency clients, or there is less animosity towards indies. This wasn't the case in the past. Even just a year and a half ago, I had a lot of clients who never used review boards or didn't spend their entire life on them.
