In Canada, I remember there were still a few cafeteria restaurants around till the early 80s. These were places that you would get a tray and go down the line and choose your meal. Meals like pasta and chicken pot pie were already plated, Roast beef and turkey was carved for you on demand. There was a cashier at the end of the line were you paid. I have seen these cafeteria style restaurants in Florida up to the late 90s.
