What were you doing at 12 years old?

Supervision is not needed to prevent or to enable
a kid to commit a crime, at least not for me as a
young teen. When I got caught stealing merchandise
from a retailer at 12 my childhood buddy of the same
age was only shielding me and signalling me when
no one else was watching. My parents had nothing
to do with the crime. There were one or two other
kids in the passenger seats. It is not unlikely execution
of the crime was planned ahead.
ok..again..this reminds me of another joke
"my 4 year old son and I came home from the Mall and i found a candy bar in his pocket...I know i didnt buy it and he certainly didnt,, so we had to go back to the Mall but first we are stopping at a jewelry store"

Yes to this. With the caveat being that I also think that a lot of cops have no “try” anymore. They are not often the best and brightest. Some sloppy, and frequently petulant, behaviour comes out of the TPS. Not sure about the GTA forces at large.

I’m sure there’s a chicken/egg in there, somewhere.

Agreed about the "sloppy" part, but that can stem from direction from the top too, because that's all political.

While you would hope that only the best and brightest are hired, that's not at all possible, in any force or private business for that matter. While most officers have a degree of sorts, either college or university, that doesn't mean that they have any common sense and this is also a breeding ground for the sloppiness that you touch on. While grinding away as a mere constable, writing tickets and dealing with the mundane realities of everyday policing, some of these educated constables think that they're too smart to be doing such things. This could also be a cause for such petulant behavior as well. This is something I've witnessed myself. Those with common sense and understanding that education doesn't mean a fast track to better things are the best officers and employees. They understand that everyone there is educated and that they aren't special because of it.

Chicken/egg or how about lab grown?

I was just going to like this, but I actually love it.

Spot on. Although “lab grown” alludes to intent. I think it’s more of a laboratory accident. Kind of like Penicillin, but bad.

Good thread OP

Before 12 .. maybe around 7 or 8 two of my buddies and I riding our bikes as always stopped at the track crossing and decided to test our pitching accuracy against each other.

We filled out pockets with the stones from the tracks and started throwing our best shots at the bill board advertisement. We were having a great time trying to hit targets pointed out by each other. When all of a sudden a cop car passed by when one of my buddies was in mid throw. The officer did a double take as I made eye contact as he slowed down and pulled over.

He had all 3 if us lined up telling us how wrong it was damaging property.. had his little black book out taking names and numbers. Said he'd be calling our parents to let them know what we're upto. I was trying to discreetly empty my pockets and thinking shit am I going to catch it at home.

So I guess back then there were no video games or Internet or cell phones and us kids found all kinds of ways to have fun.

And law enforcement? This officer didn't have to stop. But it was a different time and this guy knew parents have that responsibility for discipline. I don't think he actually made the parent call. But this incident is one of those memories that sticks with me.

And at 12 was playing foot hockey during recesses at grade school. Street hockey in the winter on our street. Burpee at the at the school yard wall in the summertime trying to prove I had the best curve ball and slider. And trying to figure out what was happening when wet dreams started. Made friends with the grade 8 slut but had no idea how to get started and chickened out.

Going to school and playing with my IPod Touch 😝
But honestly I didn’t have a chance to do anything too crazy growing up with strict Asian parents…

I had a curfew and had to be home by 6-7pm on school nights 😞

My curfew was 8:00 on school nights unless I had a hockey or soccer game.

I think that was around the time I was working with my Grandpa. When I wasn't in school of course.

Ah the arcades, such a shame they died out the way they did. Even the pool halls had cabinets that were fun to play

Not exactly my mini bike. But this sort of thing. Dont't think I had a light. Think it was a Rupp. Tecumseh engine.
