The number of fatalities caused by motor vehicles in Toronto between Jan 1/26 and June 1/26 is 23. 23 deaths in just 5 months!

The 23 deaths caused by motor vehicle drivers include14 pedestrians.14 innocent lives snuffed out by motor vehicle drivers in just 5 months! Now that is what I call carnage on the roads of Toronto.

The number of fatalities caused by bicyclists in the same time period is 0.

The 0 deaths caused by bicyclists include 0 pedestrians.

Speeding (thanks Dougs!), distracted and carless driving, (thanks again Doug!), are cited as causes of the 28% increase in fatalities caused by motor vehicle drivers.

Don't even try ..... the number of motor vehicle caused injuries, maimings, dismemberments, paralysis, catastrophic head injuries and highway traffic infractions absolutely dwarfs any other mode of urban transit and all other modes modes of urban transit combined.
Believe that the risk of dying after being hit by a bicycle is much smaller than being hit by vehicle.

A better take is data on actual accidents reported, however, that also may be misleading, as the numbers by bicyclists may not be accurate as the injury may be to small for folks to waste time on, while catching and identifying the cyclist problematic.

Nah, @Anbarandy just wont answer cause he/she knows he/she said something stupid
No, not at all.

1) Speeding, distracted and careless driving are deeply intertwined. They form a triad of human error that multiplies the risk of motor vehicle collisions.

2) Distracted and careless driving leads to speed fluctuations. When distracted, drivers frequently abandon control of their vehicles speed. They unintentionally speed up to keep pace with traffic or slow down drastically when they realize they,ve drifted, leading to erratic and careless driving.

2) Speeders engage in more distractions than drivers who follow the posted speed limits. Insurance studies consistently demonstrate that drivers who speed are significantly more likely to use their cellphones while driving and engage in distracted, reckless and careless driving. These drivers are classified as aggressive or high risk drivers.

3) Distracted drivers fail to perceive 50% of what is happening around them. Speeding multiplies the consequences of a motor vehicle collision occurring and the consequences thereof because reaction time, braking distance and field of vision are severely compromised.

4) There has been a 28% increase in motor vehicle caused fatalities since speed cameras were unilaterally banned and removed by Doug Ford. There also has been an 23% increase in speeding 20kms over the posted limit in former community safety zones, with some former zones reporting an increased rate of speeding 20kms over the posted limit at over 200% since speed cameras were unilaterally banned and removed by Doug Ford. In addition, since effectively installing himself as the de facto mayor of Toronto in 2018, Doug has through multiple decrees, enabled motor vehicle drivers to reign supreme and feel unencumbered and omnipotent throughout the roads of Toronto and Ontario. Basically there are no personal consequences anymore regarding unlawful, reckless and careless road behaviour unless a driver collides into someone/something and everyone knows this to be true.

5) Remember, speeding, distracted and careless driving are all intertwined as explained in 1), 2), and 3) above. And 4) above provides the data that measures the consequences of Doug Ford's irrational, wholly unsupported by facts and evidence, populist knee-jerk decision to reward speeders and by interconnection as proven in 1), 2), and 3) distracted and careless drivers.

6) Focus on issues of substance, motor vehicle carnage, instead of distractions from the issues, cyclists.

But did distracted and careless driving stats also go up after Ford took away the speed cameras??

But did distracted and careless driving stats also go up after Ford took away the speed cameras??
AI Overview Yes, the \(28\%\) surge is accurate for Toronto. Toronto Police data shows that fatal collisions from January to June 1 increased by \(28\%\) compared to the same period in 2025, following the provincial mandate by Premier Doug Ford to remove all municipal speed cameras. The removal of the automated enforcement tools has heavily impacted driver behavior:Speeding Spikes: Following the ban, localized data analyzed by advocacy groups like Safe Parkside showed speeds increasing by \(235\%\) on heavily trafficked corridors like Parkside Drive.Reversing Safety Progress: Studies previously demonstrated that speed cameras cut speeding in school zones by \(45\%\). After their removal, compliance at pilot sites in cities like Ottawa plummeted from \(87\%\) down to \(41\%\) within three months.Contributing Factors: While speed remains a central factor in many recent fatal crashes, police have also cited an increase in careless and distracted driving.

Reading comprehension should be your friend, my friend.

Speeding/distracted/careless driving are all intertwined/interconnected.

Yes, that theory might be correct, but you would still have to show the stats that this actually happened during that time period.

Do you have those stats?? Of course you don't

I think once speed bumps and other traffic calming measures are introduced, those stats will drastically come down

It's not theory.

It is settled fact, supported by empirical evidence, endorsed by Insurance companies and Insurance Industry associations worldwide.

You lose.

Give it a rest.

Then you should have no problem producing the data that shows distracted and careless driving stats are up under Doug Ford since he got rid of the speed cameras.

Could you please post this data??
