Everybody played dirty in his day. Product of the times. Watching him getting his face punched in by Darren McCarty was probably the best fight I've ever seen during a hockey game. I'm sure he was suffering from CTE something awful when he decided to end it. Sad that he went out like that

The guy won 4 cups. Always elevated his game when it mattered the most. Yes he had a reputation of being a dirty player and was despised by many. Most notably Detroit Red Wings fans who wanted to string him up for his hit on Kris Draper in the playoffs. Nevertheless, he is a hockey legend and I pay my respects. RIP.

OMG, he was at the last game in Montreal. He was a playoff player doing whatever needed to be done. Without looking at his stats, I think he was one of the best points avg per game leader in playoffs.

As I mentioned in another thread I was stunned given what I saw 3 days ago.

He was an enigma of sorts when he was in Montreal.
A tough, on the edge player, who could score fairly well, and was clutch. Things were great after his elite performance in the 1986 playoffs where he won the Cup, before his official rookie season in 1987. If there had been a #2 pick for the Conn Smythe it would have been him

This was his win in Game 7 of OT in the quarter-finals of the 1986 playoffs. One of the goals I most remember as a kid.

Claude Lemieux against Mike Liut

But as Mitch Melnick and Chris Nilan discussed things went south in his last few years in Montreal, as he may have been immature.. Despite being tough and a competitor, he was prone to diving a lot and faking injuries (and laying on the ice). His production also declined in this season His fake injuries annoyed the hell out of Pat Burns and the Senior Leadership (Gainey and Robinson) and after his unproductive season he was dealt to the Devils for Sylvain Turgeon. A great trade for the Devils, and a poor one for the Canadiens.
