Be careful the dog is still running around. The owner kept punching the dog, he wouldn't let go of the smaller dog.

Brown pit bull mix dog not accounted for, may be dangerous or aggressive

A man has been arrested after an off-leash dog killed a smaller dog and injured its owner in an unprovoked attack this week, Toronto police say.

In a news release Wednesday, police said the 40-year-old man has been charged with: criminal negligence causing bodily harm; obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property; obstructing a police officer; dog bite a person; and failing to prevent dog from biting or attacking.

"The dog is still at large. Officers are working with Toronto Animal Services, and efforts to locate the dog continue," police said in the release.

Police said they have no information about the relationship between the dog and the accused.

In a public safety alert earlier Wednesday, police warned the off-leash dog, a brown Pit Bull mix, could be dangerous or aggressive.

Police said officers responded to calls of an assault near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue W. at about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Ring camera video obtained by CBC Toronto shows the attack happened outside a community centre.

The small dog was killed as a result of the attack, police said.

In the alert, police said the off-leash dog remains "unaccounted for." The alert also describes the off-leash dog as "abandoned," but the video shows the dog was with someone at the time of the attack.

Hopefully he gets at least a year in jail like the last incident where a kid got bitten and had life changing injuries.

I walk past the leash free dog area where I live and there are more dogs off leash in the field right next to it where kids play and people sit down to have drinks and throw a ball etc!

Its not only the dog here, the owner obstructed the cops. He should be hit hard.

It's always start with the owner. Unfortunately, a lot of dog owners are aliens to the idea that not everyone loves their dog as they do. I spent my childhood in a country with a rampant stray dog issue, got attacked by dogs 3 times, had to do rabies shot, so I fucking hate off leashed dogs. If I get an unleashed dog jumping on me, even if the owner says it's playing, I will kick it as hard as I can.
Pitbulls... Instead of gun buy back program, they need to do pitbulls buy back program.

Good....not all dogs are created equal and not all owners are responsible owners... If you have a pit bull you need to be extra careful.

Weston and Lawrence, what a great neighborhood. Not surprising.

My neighbor had the sweetest pit, meanwhile my little one was a demonic toy dog. The owner should ultimately be more responsible of their dog and the safety of others, keeping it on leash, potentially using a muzzle if its an aggressive large dog, and giving the dog reasonable space from others when walking, sometimes things just trigger them that we don't notice.

"Life changing injuries." Thats a euphemism the media use for crippled or disfigured. Maybe if they used those words, we would actually enforce that pit bull ban.

yeah - the city is not interested in enforcing the bylaws about unleashed dogs outside of leash free areas. At best the big white bylaw trucks slowly drive by giving everyone a change to put their dogs on a leash. The city can say they did some enforcement, the dog owners don't get charged and everyone is happy except for the many who are scared of dogs or just want to go about their business without having a dog run up to them...

But this dog is a mix, is it still considered banned?
Exactly and mixed with what? Could be boxer, hound, lab, etc. Who knows what the dogs ancestry is. Yet it's always referred to as a pit mix if it is a large dog with a square head, when often there is no pit in it. Have you ever seen a boxer, lab mixed dog? Many would call them pitbulls. The media has trained people to believe the silliest misnomers about certain dog breeds. Regardless of the breed when one dog kills another, hold the owner responsible. They have neglected properly training and knowing their dog. Dog reactive dogs show themselves to be that way early on. Proper training and management are key.

Attacked 3 times, now hates ALL dogs. Makes sense. In my early hobbying years I've had some very negative and somewhat dangerous experiences. Yet here I am. Imagine if I started hating all women, or all providers because of my negative experiences. The jumping up dogs aren't your problem, your anger management is. Perhaps get some therapy for your past traumas.

Exactly. Jumping up dogs is the owner problem. There are special parks/places that allow dogs run around off the leash. In all other scenarios, the dog in public should be leashed.
Yeah, let's compare women to dogs. Are you even serious?
What makes you think I have anger management? The fact that I have boundaries(which are really just keep your dog leashed) and ask dog owners respect them?

Toronto police have located the dog wanted in connection with the mauling death of a smaller dog in the city’s west end earlier this week.

Investigators issued a public safety alert just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday following reports of an assault involving a larger dog, described as an abandoned, brown pit bull mix, in the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West area

Police said the “unprovoked” attack resulted in a small dog being killed and the owner sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, police arrested Mohamoud Abdiwa Ahmed and charged him with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, obstructing a peace officer, dog biting a person under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act, failure to prevent a dog from biting or attacking under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act, and obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

Investigators say the dog was located and captured by Toronto Animal Services around 8 p.m. on Thursday. There was no immediate word on the future of the dog.
