Any guys tried a daily regimen L-Citrulline supplement to improve their hardness? Results?

Key Health Benefits for Males
  • Improved Erectile Function: L-citrulline converts to L-arginine, increasing nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow to the penis. A study found that 50% of men with mild ED reported improved erection hardness after taking it.
Reduced Fatigue: By improving nitric oxide levels, it improves blood flow, reducing symptoms of fatigue and improving stamina
  • Optimal Dose: Studies frequently use doses ranging from 3 to 6 grams of L-citrulline per day.
Safety: It is considered safe and well-tolerated with few side effects

L-Citrulline is a precursor nitric oxide.

L-citrulline is a superior, natural amino acid supplement used to increase nitric oxide (NO) levels, improve blood flow, and enhance athletic performance. Unlike direct nitric oxide supplements, which are often unstable or less effective, L-citrulline efficiently converts into L-arginine in the kidneys to produce sustained nitric oxide

L-Citrulline is generally considered superior to L-Arginine for boosting nitric oxide, improving blood flow, and enhancing athletic performance due to higher bioavailability. While both increase arginine levels, L-Citrulline bypasses liver breakdown, making it more efficient, whereas L-Arginine can cause gastrointestinal distress and has lower absorption

Key Differences and Comparison
  • Effectiveness & Absorption: L-Citrulline is more effective at raising plasma arginine levels than L-Arginine itself. It is absorbed better and does not break down as quickly in the liver.
  • Mechanism: L-Citrulline is converted into L-Arginine by the kidneys, which then turns into nitric oxide, promoting vasodilation (widening of blood vessels).
    • Side Effects: L-Arginine supplementation is often associated with gastrointestinal discomfort (gassiness, diarrhea), whereas L-Citrulline is generally better tolerated.
    • Performance & Recovery: L-Citrulline is widely favored in pre-workout supplements for enhancing "muscle pumps," increasing endurance, and reducing muscle soreness.
    • Longevity: L-Citrulline provides a more sustained, longer-lasting increase in nitric oxide production, whereas L-Arginine offers a more immediate, albeit short-lived, effect.

    • Which Should You Choose?
      • Choose L-Citrulline if: Your goal is improved athletic performance, better "pumps," improved blood pressure, or increased endurance.
      • Choose L-Arginine if: You need a direct, fast-acting, but temporary increase in arginine, though L-Citrulline often provides better results, according to research.

I tried it - dont think it did nything - or maybe it was just a placebo - because once I ran out I realised there was no difference.

I read that the precrusor to all of this stuff is cholesterol and I once saw a recommendation (4 Hour Body Tim Ferriss) to eat 4 hard boiled eggs the night before you expected action. That did work. Or was it a placebo?

See, I've been trying to figure that whole situation out. Cholesterol is necessary and helpful for many bodily functions but also can be very harmful in terms of clogging arteries and causing coronary issues. Do you have any resources that give a better explanation as to whats considered safe and whats not? I currently consume a lot of eggs and I want to make sure I don't create a significant health problem. So much contradictory information out there....

Your liver produces 80% of your total cholesterol, the rest coming from your diet.

I'm more worried about inflammation

Remember 2 things here - 1. Any mainstream health organization that is full of doctors gets most of its health information from drug companies. And Statins are pretty much the biggest moneymaker - $14 billion a year (I just looked) so do you think they have a vested interest interest in promoting cholesterol as the #1 cause of heart attacks?

And B -Its fairly well known that the real causes of heart attacks is unknown -atherosclerosis (the build up of plaque from cholesterol etc) is only 1 idea. Even the May clicnic published an article talking about other causes - https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/...ults-especially-women/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Note - the reason they aren't sure about the whole cholesterol = blocked arteries = heart attack idea is because they have done autopsies on people who had died from a heart attack and ofetn find little to no plaque build up.

And heres a doctors take on the whole thing - https://www.prevention.com/health/a63398546/cholesterol-myths-facts/

And then the May clinic will also tell you about all the fun side effects of statins - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases...rol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013

Arthur Agatston - the guy who created the South Beach diet and wrote the book South Beach Heart Program was a cardiologist who did not believe in the atherosclerosis blocked artery principle - he believed that a small amount of plaque could break away and cause basically a cut in the artery which the body would clot. 99% of the time you dont feel a thing but then one day the whole artery gets blocked causing the heart attack.

My point is - it might be cholesterol - it might not. But if it is - the cholesterol that causes the problems (along with inflammation) is made by the body - its not the stuff you eat - which is why its safe to eat lots of eggs. Lots of egges.

Its probably all the highly processed foods you should avoid - and stress - and drugs that have side effects.

Note - Im not a doctor - and dont play one on TV. My medical knowledge comes from reading lots of books by doctors. But I do eat lots of eggs. And Im still alive.

Explain how cutting out Sweet potato, regular potato, and broccoli, or OMG unsweetened oatmeal, will get your dick back? Enquiring minds want to know. ;)
Oatmeal is a terrible food for you. Sweet potato and regular potato are carbs. Broccoli fair enough.

It's rather predictable that excess carbs will wilt your dick. Cut them out for a few days and watch.

I completely disagree with you. Unsweetened oatmeal is absolutely not a terrible food. The packaged sugary versions are a different story, but plain oatmeal is fine.

Also, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and even rice are not going to negatively affect your erections unless you’re constantly overeating, running a calorie surplus, and becoming a fatty to put it bluntly.

People need to stop listening to influencers pushing nonsense nutrition advice with zero credentials, understanding of basic physiology or just trying to sell you something.

I've been eating "carb" all my life, and yup, I'm in pretty good shape and getting an erection has never been a problem. The problem is I get them too often and am always looking for sex, dammit. Although I do not eat junk food or fast food but this is because it makes it to hard to stay within one's calorie maintenance and they can become addictive.

Um you're obviously not in the demo that the OP is in. If your dick is soft, metabolic syndrome is almost always an issue, and therefore, carb addiction and A1C issues. The reduction of EXCESS carbs is almost always associated with a renewal of dick energy. If you're you and you are not addicted to carbs, and your dick is fine, you're not the target of my post.

I would agree with you if you’re specifically targeting heavily processed carbs and overweight individuals dealing with erectile issues or metabolic syndrome. In that context, reducing excess junk carbs and improving overall diet can absolutely help.

But writing off all carbs is where I disagree. Oatmeal, potatoes, rice, fruit, and other whole food carb sources are not inherently harmful. The bigger issue is overall calorie intake, body composition, insulin resistance, and lifestyle habits, not simply “carbs = bad.”
