"Look at what happened when they drafted Matthews and all the cups they won, I imagine they'll win at least twice as many with the new number one draft pick....two times zero is one right?" - The Hockey Guy 🤣

Trade Matthews. Bystander and Tavares for a couple of first rounders and let the rebuilding retool begin!
Sincerely
BDE
You must be new here. Their 2027 and 2028 firsts are unprotected and given away to Boston and Philly. There is no time to rebuild.

  • If the Leafs' 2027 first-round pick is outside the top 10, it goes to the Flyers. The Bruins would then get the Leafs' unprotected 2028 first-round pick.
  • If the Leafs' 2027 first-round pick is inside the top 10, they can choose to give it to the Flyers or Bruins. The team not chosen will get Toronto's unprotected 2028 first-rounder.

That's like saying we're dying of thirst but we have no time to dig a well.
Are you satisfied with just making the best of what we've got in spite of the huge downward trend?

Just when you think you can leave, after hiring Chayka, they pull me back in by winning the draft lottery.....

Honestly, I don't know how this is all going to shake out. I mean, historically, the Leafs two first overall picks have had amazing careers (Wendel Clark & Auston Matthews), but neither of them ever won shit. And, even if they draft the best player....It still doesn't address a lot of the issues the team has. And, will Matthews be healthy next year?

It's going to be a messy few years, but hope is all we really have...

Ballard was such a horrible owner that his bullshit is still being felt today.

Under his tenure, he nickeled and dimed the organization. He didn't sign great players like Bernie Parent because he was cheap as fuck. He let Dave Keon walk. He hired horrible GMs and coaches, and fired good ones. Roger Nielson, Jim Gregory, Lanny MacDonald and Darryl Sittler all got screwed by that idiot.

It's like his spirit casts a pall on the team, I'd suggest approaching the Vatican for an exorcism but I'm not sure that would fix much...if anything

No team has ever successfully rebuilt without their 1st round picks
But please, go ahead and hand Boston a lottery pick by tanking instead of pushing for the playoffs

The Shanaplan was working year one and then it went off the rails. management decided to reward their best players with ridiculous contracts. The players turned into mercenaries. High level performance was expected. The team was divided into the haves and the have nots.
There was no chemistry.
Its a self destructive pattern.
Same with giving up players and draft picks for mercenaries at the trade deadline.
Mercs that don’t fit in and disrupt any chemistry
