Anyone else struggling with GTA commute times lately?

How much extra time are you building into your plans to account for Toronto traffic?

Anyone else find that the "Toronto rush" makes it impossible to actually coordinate timing? I feel like I’m constantly racing against traffic just to stay on schedule

Probably not, in this economy at least, but at the same time you have to share public transit with all the crazies and people who refuse to practice basic hygiene if you go that route

Thats true! The screaming crazies make it worth paying for gas and car insurance. Even if the commute is roughly the same.

GTA
Before COVID I didn't own a car for decades.

I live in the city, on the subway line. If I'm moving around the city on a subway, streetcar, or LRT line (with up to a 15 minute walk) I take the TTC. I can do that for office days, and I prefer to see independents, and use incalls, near the above infrastructure. I typically try to do my stuff in that zone, though I do drive for groceries. I find driving in Toronto proper to be deeply unpleasant.

Otherwise I drive, or take a train, or occasionally fly.

With the above in mind, driving or TTC, I usually aim for 15 minutes early. Though that's in city movement and I try to avoid the GTA parts of the 401, DVP, or Gardner during busy times of day. For those trips the roads are modesty slower, but predictability so, because you can route around real problems. That's better than a mystery snarl on a highway for me.

Struggling with GTA commutes lately? Honestly, it’s always been like this the only time traffic felt manageable was during lockdown.

I always drive to work and plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early because I’ve learned the hard way not to trust GPS lol 😃

Off topic, but do you guys prefer using Waze or Google Maps for GPS?
