Idiots? Well I guess one has been found. I've been visiting with independents for some 30 yrs and many of them have required id for more than a decade. I have the common sense and intelligence to determine who is safe to give it to and who isn't and it's worked fine for me all these years. In case you weren't aware, we all leave a followable trail just being here and on the net should someone have the desire and talent to want to find us so your paranoia and fear mongering are unnecessary and rather silly. Most of us have probably exposed ourselves already, lol, excuse the pun.

Canada became a low trust society since immigration floods have been opened. Ten years ago, when Canada was still at its highs, almost no one was asking for ID to book. Another thing to consider. While i do believe that most SP won't use your information to do anything bad with it, it also can be stolen/used by 3rd party against you. The worst (best) historical example in fate of jews in France and Netherlands during holocaust. Approximately 75% of Dutch Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, a much higher percentage than in France (around 25%), largely due to comprehensive pre-war registration. The Dutch government had detailed records of citizens' religions. When the Nazis invaded, they used these records to pinpoint Jewish locations immediately. So, while Dutch government simply asked and stored and extra data that they didn't use, it became a pivotal factor when 3rd party (Nazi) put their hands on this data. No, I am not. People who can beat up, rob, or kill an SP are usually violent criminals and not that smart and careful in their lives. Successful white old dudes (the best SPs clientele) are the ones who treat SPS with the most respect, and also the ones who are concerned about their privacy a lot. Requiring an ID skewed the pool of potential customers towards the bad ones.
