I really don't even see how a Habs fan who actually watched the guy play in his first season could come to such a conclusion, his talent was glaringly apparent from the start and a sub $8 million dollar cap hit was a bargain which has only gotten better through the years. Same goes for Caufield and Slaf
Not all fans of their team see things the same way. It may have been clear to you.

I'm guessing those people were malding Leafs fans. Anybody who has paid attention to this guy since he came into the NHL knew he was destined for greatness. In his first few seasons he was called baby Bergeron by his teammates, I think that basically says it all. He is going to collect a lot of awards in his career and, fingers crossed, some cup rings too
Yes, one particular Leafs fan, but a few others.

Not sure if he is going to get many trophies because they are hard to come by (he will never get an MVP, Ross or Richard). He should get a Selke this year, and perhaps a few more after this. Bergeron is the right comp, although Suzuki is a better offensively, and a bit below defensively.

Hopefully he gets at least one cup.

Cole Caufield is the league's second-best scorer. Did we have that in Montreal since Guy Lafleur??

This guy was a steal! Judge too short he is, like his coach before him, proving all wrong :)

The Habs will win the cup this year. Sorry Leafs... Hahahahaha
Richer got 50 a few times in the 80's... last guy to get 50.
But in the 80's, 50 happened quite frequently so it wasn't that special.
It's a much bigger accomplishment today.

I think it's more Montreal fans who don't understand term and inflation. Players, especially coming off their entry level contract are still developing. Hence they are overpaid in the early years and a great bargain in their later years when they are more or fully developed. I don't think Leafs fans follow what's going on in Montreal that closely or even follow at all for that matter.

Similar to how people in general compare salaries that are signed in different years for different terms.
Ask Glam what his thoughts were on Suzuki.....

IIRC, a car dealership in the Montreal area gave Richer a free sports car when he scored 50.

I can see a Lady Byng in his future and while I wouldn't say the odds are high if Montreal is actually able to win a cup with Suzuki as captain a Con Smyth isn't entirely out of the question either. Same goes for the Hart

Massive win again tonight, the Habs are getting red hot going down the final stretch of the season. Their defensive play has made huge strides in the past few weeks but probably the biggest improvement has been in net. Dobes has been absolutely phenomenal and hasn't allowed more than two goals in his past six starts.

Caufield is getting ever closer to 50 goals and is keeping pace with MacKinnon for the Rocket Richard trophy race and Suzuki is also within arm's reach of 100 points.

They will be missing Carrier for the next two to four weeks which is definitely going to hurt come playoff time if he's still not ready to return but other than that the team is looking better than they have been in over a generation. Lots to be excited about going forward into the playoffs and next season

Next 4 games is where Montreal can make its move for top of the division - Rangers, Devils, Devils, Panthers.
Rangers have been winning though.
Pantheres are outright tanking.

Every one of those teams are the definition of a trap team. Lots of talent that has no pressure on them. I'd be happy if they go 2-1-1 over those four games but I'd also love them to sweep the lot of em

The Habs have reached another level. They don't always have to play their best to win. They have enough talent and confidence to overcome setbacks and long stretches of games where they have been outplayed. It was good to hear MSL and several players acknowledge that after yesterday's win.

Caulfield gets his 50th
Slavkofsky gets his 30th
Suzuki on his way to 100 points
Habs move ahead of Tampa
Habs show Tampa that they won't be pushed around

A big win all around
It wasn't just his 50th goal that was so impressive it's how he scored it and against arguably the best goalie in the NHL right now.

It's also worth mentioning that Xhekaj, Struble and Anderson all played excellent hockey, putting Tampa's top line on their back foot for pretty much the entire game

Habs will play Tampa in first round - with Tampa having home ice advantage.

Should be an entertaining series.
Tampa is a more experienced playoff team with a veteran and proven goalie. But the Habs have been playing very well the last few weeks - including the recent win over Tampa.

The injury to Noah Dobson significantly weakens Montreal's D. If he is out for the series that will be hard to overcome.

I agree. Should be an entertaining series. Looking forward to it. Even with the loss of Dobson, which is huge, I expect the Habs to be more competitive than they were in last year's playoffs

Missing Dobson is bad enough but Carrier is also out too. Not overly optimistic about the Habs prospects against a team like Tampa but at the very least it will make for entertaining hockey games

I think the Habs have a good chance to win this series if they can get a split in Tampa. The Bolts might have a tough go winning in Montreal. Tampa might try and drag the Habs in the mud in this series if they get down. Hopefully Habs respond. This is the most interesting match up in the first round for me
