Avi Lewis has won the leadership of the federal NDP at the party's convention in Winnipeg. He pulled in over 50% on the first ballot.

Bad news for cons. This version of the NDP will not split the vote with Liberals. Lewis appeals to primarily urban lefties who the Liberals can afford to lose in safe urban seats.

Yeah, that nonsense will hold them back for sure.

I do not know Lewis or how he differentiates himself from the other NDP wannabes
Who knows, maybe he can rebuild the party and carve off some liberal vote
He would be hard pressed to do worse than Jagmeet Singh

But how do they get him in parliament? They are slim on seats.

It's obvious the NDP followed the money this time and not the "woke".

There isn't going to be a by-election or an election any time soon. He is going to be hard pressed to get any sort of press for himself in the next year and a half.

Once those by elections hit in April and Carney has a majority he can afford to wait at least a year and a half. The news of the world is going to dominate things and he is not going to be the answer Canadians are seeking.

What a useless party anyway. Is there any material difference between the libs and the NDP? The Libs have implemented nearly all of the NDP core wants.

ID VOTE NDP OVER CARNEY ANYDAY LOL
Sure. But you are in the minority. I don't see Avi as a charismatic figure able to inspire beyond the base. Maybe he will step up, but no seat, no party status, vs a majority is a huge hill to climb. Especially with a leader of both parties with name recognition far greater.

Carney, if he gets a trade deal with the USA, more in the next year with other nations, and we ride out the coming economic woes in ok fashion is going to get another election win.

Carney is implementing austerity and supporting Israeli interests.
That will give the NDP a wedge, lib/NDP minorities have been the best.
