Has anyone experienced extreme side effects of cancer treatment. For the last week and ½ every joint in my body is in pain shoulders elbows wrists knees ankles my fingers feel like their exploding. I tried contacting the hospital but every time I go I get a different doctor I basically told him to fuck off I’m not a guinea pig. It’s gotten to the point where it takes me half an hour to get out of bed and approximately 45 minutes after I have a hit because I have no strength in the hands and arms I used to lift a Chevy engine block bear no problem now pound of butter is just about the limit and I also got to remember to zip up the fly that’s a real treat

A relative went through the same thing. So what you're going through, totally normal and mentally debilitating to see yourself go through it. Just make sure to eat even though you may not feel like it, the weight loss was pretty crazy.
Zero sugars, get crackers, butter, apple sauce, pretty dense stuff. Worked for him, it was a rough road, but he got through it. Did they give you Ensure to drink?

It will pass after the chemo.

Be careful of getting hooked on opiate pain killers. They really don't help the pain, they just dull your overall brain so you don't care as much. And when you finish chemo, you run the very real risk of having become addicted. This is how many average people become opiate addicts and slide down that slippery slope.

Maybe check online and Google "Is there any adverse drug interaction with <insert your chemo drug here> and ibuprofen or naproxen?" (Advil and Aleve)

or "Will ibuprofen or naproxen reduce my joint pain from <insert your chemo drug here>?"

These are anti-inflammatory drugs and are good for joint pain if it is caused by inflammation.

Ride it out without opcodes if you can Cowboy. Unless it is terminal and you aren;'t ever going to come off them.. AND your Doctor will prescribe them to you forever. Otherwise, lots of people end up going to other sources to get their opiate fix. If you think chemo joint pain is bad, try opioid withdrawal!

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is effectively intentional poisoning, so it comes with the territory. It does pretty terrible things to your body, which your oncologist should have explained to you prior to the treatment. Doctors can only do so much about the side effects, and as everyone reacts somewhat differently to the treatment, they can't really preempt treating the symptoms. So yes, it may feel like you're a guinea pig, but the doctors are likely frustrated as well that the answers aren't straightforward.

Cancer is a terrible thing. The same cancer and same treatment can effect individuals differently. As stated already, chemo is poison and the goal is to have the cancer cells die before your normal cells die. Cancer cells typically reproduce faster and are effected by the chemo more easily. That is why you lose your hair in chemo as those cells multiply faster.

Things will improve off chemo and your docs should be doing bloodwork to make sure your blood counts are not effected to a dangerous degree from the chemo. Some lingering effects like neuropathy can occur but life will get better once chemo is done. Keep good calories on board as best as you can. God speed brother!

My first go round with chemo..I blew up like the Michelin man..lost my taste buds for weeks..
Took me about 18 months to be able to walk around the block..

2nd go round with chemo..different protocols different side effects...lethargic..ALL THE TIME..practically needed C4 to have a bowel movement!!...ugh

3rd go round with chemo..was tricky cus tumors were close to heart.so needed a Pic-line..went in the artery under my biceps.. across my shoulder then down to the heart...drug was kinda new cus of my other heart issues ...hated eating cus nothing tasted right..almost like 1st round when I lost my taste buds...was like chewing on wax!
Joints were stiff..tough to move around
I kept working thru the chemo until it got to the point I couldn't focus properly...which wasn't good considering my job...so took time off

Best advice..don't let it win!

Clear a few thins up first it is not chemo it is immunotherapy. 500 ml pembrolizumab every 3 weeks and yes, I was told about some of the side effect never told how bad it is. have 3 visits and every time it’s a different dr that see me. And to top it off it’s TOAL BULLSHIT the oncology unit is only 8am to 4pm.Shit theirs so many people there you could run it 7 days a week 6am to 6pm.This comes for someone that had a 5 pound sled hammer straight to the forehead and the first thing I said was “ shit they LIE I don’t see any Tweety birds flying around”
