I've noticed over the years that Boston does quite well with their young talent. Brandon Carlo was a regular on the Bruins roster at 20. Marchand by the age of 22 and Begeron played his first full season at 19. Like Minten neither was a first round draft selection.
and PASTA;)..

Or Nylander.
He's one of the most talented guys in the league, Boston wouldn't take him if you put a gun to their heads.
i have said it before, WAAY overated. he can shoot, score, get points, decent player. ive never said he couldnt play, i said he,s a lazy, soft as shite , overpaid one way player, more people now realizing that, since AM went down. Trevling had his chance when he got here, could have gotten a decent return on him, and you probably still have Marner here, just my two cents.

His laziness and self-entitlement is toxic IMO. His self absorbed character and unwillingness to adapt his game for the
benefit of the team makes him a shitty teammate at best.

In Saturday night's game in the first period, the Sens were hemming the Leafs in their zone, one of the Sens is circling from top of the right faceoff circle
and arcing towards the center area of the front of the net. He's holding on to the puck with a Leaf trying to slow him down from behind,
Nylander is skating directly at him, gives him a hard tap on the shin pads and skates right past him like he's playing shinny.
I did a Linda Blair, my head nearly spun off.
I've been watching hockey a long time, I've never detested a Leaf player, I hate this POS.
He's been called out by every coach and GM (except maybe Treliving) for his lack of effort.
A curse on the Leafs for keeping him here knowing what he's like....and putting an A on his sweater.

I don't blame the team, the Leaf organization is a disgrace to professional sports.

Amen to that!! well said. he,s lucky Wendel or Sittler arent on the team, because one of them would have sorted him out, GUARANTEED.

I don't know if you remember Pat Burns when he was coaching the Leafs with Gilmour there.
The players loved him, and he wouldn't have put up with it for one minute, fuck, Gilmour wouldn't have put up with it..
Different ownership, completely different spirit on the team back then.

Bruins suck! Seriously, you let Domi walk in like that and score? Are the Bruins tanking this game so they can get the Leafs 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10th overall pick? Then they don't deserve to make the playoffs.

One key element that's been missing in this Matthew's era, is the leadership quality of the core players. Matthew's, Taraves, Marner, Rielly and Nylander. This core group reminds me of the Muskoka Five. No shortage of skills but the "fire and desire" we used to see in Gilmour or Clark has been non existent. The same fire and desire to win we see in today's greats like OV, Crosby or McDavid. With this cotton soft core group controlling the locker room, no wonder character guys like O'Reilly didn'twant to be a part of.

Didn't O'Reilly make some comments on the way out that there was something very wrong in the dressing room or something
to that effect?

Pasta was a low first round pick but still on the main roster soon after. I bet Mitten would be a healthy scratch on the Leafs most nights. They're ruining Cowen. He should've been playing for the Marlies this season. He's not NHL ready and being a healthy scratch for many game doesn't help with his development.

In Boston you're beholden to the system and the culture of the organization, in Toronto you're beholden to the players.
Toronto's culture is NMCs and to never waive them.

They had their chance to trade him to address their defensive needs. But no they had to give $1.5 million more than his original asking price per season and throw in a no move clause with it.

Bruins were killing a penalty. 4 on 3. The two forwards got caught up high. Mcavoy was covering Nylander in the high slot. He's the shooter there and Domi is the passer. It's in effect a 2 on 1. Mcavoy covered the passing lane to Nylander. It's up to Swayman. Shots were 35 Leafs to 20 Boston. It was Boston that played with no passion.

Leafs had 2 wins and 4 OT wins to take and that was it. They've taken 3 wins and 2 OT losses so they're out of ammo.
They'll need to go 10 straight regulation losses to end the season to get a shot at 4th. Next 2 games will determine if there's even hope, gainst NYR and St. Louis. Chicago and Calgary both won so they're keeping pace but they'll be running out of games soon.

Nylander is actually the embodiment of everything the Leaf organization stands for, that's why he's still here.
Slick and flashy but hollow inside, without heart or passion.
Both intent only on maximizing their own numbers, their prestige, their aggrandizement,
all at the expense of doing what is absolutely necessary to create a true team culture willing to sacrifice.

Nylander lied about the Matthews incident, he said he didn't respond because he didn't see what happened.
He threw is arm up at the ref as soon as Matthews got hit, and did nothing, and bold faced lied, and for that they put an A on his sweater.

Nylander's lack of jam would have given Burns a level of heartburn i doubt he could have easily recovered from. Maybe 10 or 20 pages ago, there is a great video of Gillmour getting destroyed by McSorley in game one of the 1993 Western Conference Final. Wendell Clark absolutely loses it and has an insane fight with that goon, Burns is screaming at Barry Melrose and Gilmour, maybe concussed but not giving a shit, challenges the entire Kings bench.

Then watch the Leafs 'respond' to their current captain getting destroyed. Pathetic culture filled with soft players playing for their own name, not the crest on the front of their jersey.

It's a rare case where if I could fire nearly all the players, I would. Outside Cowan, Knies and OEL, not a single player on this team feels worth keeping. Film never lies.
I've always been a huge Matthews fan, but i think it's time to move on, even for his own sake.
He still has a lot of good hockey left in him, we just need a different type of guy after all this.
Very impressed with Cowan's toolkit and potential.
