I still use my 6th gen Lenovo X1 carbon laptop with Ubuntu installed. It has 16gb RAM and it is plenty fast enough for me. I was thinking of getting a Mac mini but the configuration i want is way too much justify the spend.

I would rather deal with Canada Computers in-store, rather than Amazon. Returning high-priced items to Amazon is painful now.

That's bad luck man, and they're not going to send you a new one they're just going to refund it instead?

No, for high-priced items like that GPU, they need to inspect it for fraud and to make sure it's the actual GPU returned. Once it's confirmed, they will issue a refund. It will take up to 30 days. Then you can buy a replacement, but by then the GPU is either all sold out or the price goes up. Sucks!

I only bought it from Amazon because I had a few hundred dollars in gift cards from Xmas so figured I would use those up. I probably should used them for something else and just bought the card Canada Computers etc...

Because Amazon is getting a lot of fraudulent returns on expensive computer hardware, they have to resort to this. Better to shop at a brick-and-mortar computer shop, where you deal one-on-one with a sales rep.

That's not too bad, it's understandable on their part but also kinda frustrating from a normal consumer point of view

Or call customer service to see if they will ship you a replacement if they have another one of the same model. 1-877-586-3230

Ya, I imagine they get a ton of returns, so the 30-day window for the returns team to inspect the high-priced items.

Canada Computers has a 15% return/restocking fee. I only shop there as a last resort.

Have a friend who bought a 3D printer from them and it ended up broken when he got home, they did everything in their power to not refund him until they finally relented and gave him store credit as an appeasement
Not been the biggest fan of theirs for a while because of all those issues

Had a similar experience but with a monitor. I told myself never again with CC.

That was in the past. I returned stuff recently and there was no restocking fee, unless I am a preferred customer. Unopened and defective merchandise does not incur restocking fees.

No restocking fee if the item is returned in resalable condition with all original packaging and within 15 days.

So update on this (with timeline)....

Sat. 14th - Card arrived, installed, DOA, return process initiated.
Mon. 16th - Card dropped off at Purolator (Amazon chose them).
Thurs. 19th - Card returned according to Amazon. Refund granted.
Fri. 20th - Gift card balance restored.
Sat. 21st - Refund to Mastercard occurred.

Couple issues:

1. Purolator is still showing the card stuck in transit in Etobicoke and yet to be delivered.
2. Amazon is still showing the refund will not be credited until next week.

So Purolator and Amazon don't talk to each other all that well and Amazon's internal processes happen out of sync based on when they say things will happen.
