Incredible how Israelis get the intelligence for these strikes, must be inside information.
Ali Larijani was personally left in charge of Iran by the Ayatollah Khomeini and was running the country. Gen. Gholam Reza Soleimani was the leader of the Brown Shirts squad that assassinated and ran over protesters with their jeeps. Very cruel.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Israel said Tuesday it killed two senior Iranian security officials in overnight strikes in a major blow to the country’s leadership. Iran, which did not immediately confirm either death, fired new salvos of missiles and drones at its Gulf Arab neighbours and Israel in a war that showed no signs of abating.

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Gen. Gholam Reza Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s all-volunteer Basij force, were “eliminated last night,” Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said. Larijani was considered one of the most powerful figures in the country since Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an airstrike on the first day of the war.

Both men were key to Iran’s violent crackdown on protests in January that challenged the theocracy’s 47-year rule. The killings would strip Iran of important leaders during a war that presents that greatest test for the Islamic Republic in recent decades.

With concerns growing about a global energy crisis, Iran launched fresh attacks against several of its Gulf Arab neighbours and oil infrastructure throughout the region. Dubai, a major transit hub for international travel, briefly shut its airspace, the second disruption to flights in the city in as many days. An Iranian official said Tehran had no intention of relinquishing its tight grip on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for oil.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said NATO and most other allies have rejected his calls to help secure the strait.

The Israeli military also said it had begun a “wide-scale wave of strikes” across Iran’s capital and was stepping up strikes on Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

Larijani, a former parliamentary speaker and senior policy adviser, advised the late Khamenei on strategy in nuclear talks with the Trump administration. He was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury in January for his role in “coordinating” Iran’s violent suppression nationwide protests.

Soleimani was also sanctioned by the U.S., as well as by the European Union and other nations, over his role in helping suppress dissent for years through the Basij.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the killings were aimed at weakening Iran’s government. “We are undermining this regime to give the Iranian people the opportunity to remove it,” he said.

There have been no signs of anti-government protests since the war began, as many Iranians are sheltering from the American and Israeli strikes.

The reported killings of Larijani and Soleimani came on the eve of “Chaharshanbe Souri,” or the Festival of Fire, shortly before the Persian new year. Authorities have sent threatening text messages to the public, urging them not to take part in the festival.

State media aired footage Tuesday of pro-government demonstrations, including images of some men in plainclothes branding assault rifles and shotguns on the back of motorcycles -- a sign of the government wanting to prevent renewed protests against the theocracy.

Confirmed both POS are killed. They'll have to start wearing burkas so the citizens don't snitch on them.

An Iranian news agency affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed Tuesday that Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is dead, hours after Israel said he and another senior Iranian official were killed in overnight airstrikes

“Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, has been martyred,” the Fars News Agency wrote in a post on the social platform X, translated from Persian.

“Martyr Ali Larijani, one of the country’s prominent and prudent officials, along with his son, one of his deputies, and a group of bodyguards, was targeted by American and Zionist regime fighter jets at his daughter’s home in the Pardis area and was martyred,” the news agency wrote in a follow-up post.

Larijani, who was speaker of Iran’s parliament until 2020, is the second most senior Iranian official to be assassinated since Ayatollah Ali Khameini was killed in targeted strikes on his compound on the first day of the joint U.S.-Israeli military operation.

He was seen as a de facto transitional leader after U.S.-Israeli strike killed the country’s former supreme leader, Ali Khameini, early in the war. The new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khameini, has not appeared publicly since assuming his father’s role.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also said Tuesday that Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force, had been “eliminated” following an attack.

“Under Soleimani, the Basij unit led the main repression operations in Iran, employing severe violence, widespread arrests, and the use of force against civilian demonstrators,” the IDF wrote on X.

The Iranian regime’s military leadership has been a central target of the joint U.S. and Israeli strikes, which are largely aimed at suppressing Tehran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

As the war started, Trump suggested Iranians should topple the longtime ruling Islamic regime, but in recent days has suggested such an uprising is unlikely given the threat of repressive violence.

In a statement posted by the Fars News Agency, the IRGC vowed to avenge the deaths of those who have died in the conflict.

“The pure blood of Martyr Ali Larijani, like that of our other dear martyrs, will serve as a source of honor, strength, and national awakening against the global front of arrogance and international Zionism, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will certainly never forget to avenge the blood of this great martyr and the other martyrs of the Sacred Defense,” the statement said.

Iran has already retaliated by targeting U.S. and Israeli interests across neighboring Gulf states and by effectively restricting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, seeking to exert economic pressure to bring the war to an end.

Another one bites the dust, and another one, and another one.

$100, $200 and $300 oil eventually. Perhaps Trump should focus on
cleaning up the mess instead of killing more Iranians. But I guess it is
easier for Trump to ask his lackeys than Israel to clear up blockage in
Hormuz.

I'm afraid it will take "boots on the ground " to achieve a regime change in Iran.

I just hope they're not Israeli boots, as I don't think Trump would risk the domestic blow-back that would result if he ordered "American boots"...

Israelis don't have enough people to send. The US has, but nobody wants to send them in including Trump. The fight has to come from the Iranians, bombing could only do so much. Apparently Palhavi is gaining ground and popularity. If the Iranian citizens don't want to fight , it will go back to how it was before except the Nukes and ayatollahs armaments took a hit backwards.

With the US and Israel
So I guess they won't have to make any agreement with other Iranians?

Surely in a country of 90 million people it is not likely most or even
a majority of them would belong to the same opposition.

Don't want to fight whom? And what if they want to fight Palhavi?
Iranians don't necessarily support the son of the dead Shah just
because they hate the Ayatollah.

The may have to unite to get rid of the ayatollahs and then workout a democratic future with time.
