But, all those civilian deaths and the deaths of US service men just because these idiots wanted to rush into a war with no clear goals or exit strategy. I don't think we should be "happy" Khamenei is dead either.
There is always an effort to dehumanize an enemy to excuse illegal attacks.
If we knew a neighbour was a murderer would it be morally defensible to walk up to them and shoot them dead? No, it wouldn't.
Not to mention Netanyahu is the bigger murderer than Khamenei.
What the US and Israel did was 100% illegal, unnecessary and morally indefensible, and yes, that includes the decapitation strike, which also killed Khamenei's grand children by the way.
As for why they miscalculated this, it is possibly because they are both bigots who were dismissive of Iranian resolve, intelligence and also because they consider Muslims to be a monolithic threat rather than as strategic actors.
However, I would generally expect a 2500 year civilization to have more resolve than a country dreamed up out of thin air less than 80 years ago.

I should say, I'm not happy Khamenei is dead, though I don't necessarily mourn his death. This war was illegal. It was a sneak attack, just like what sent the US into WWII after Pearl Harbour. This again shows that Trump cannot negotiate. He can dictate, but he can't reach deals where both parties are happy.
