Mr. Nobody against Putin won Oscar today for best Documentary: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2ggjegj5lo . Sad, funny, and gives an inside view of what is going on in Russia from the ordinary people's perspective. You can find it online for free or watch it on streaming services.
Really??? So many posts with Twitter reposts, derogatory language, hate, and no one even bothered to watch this documentary? This forum should be renamed as "I want to spit on everyone" instead of "Politics, Religion & International Affairs"

It won the Oscar for a reason, and this reason is not political correctness or partisan politics. It is neither pro-Ukrainian (there is nothing about Ukraine there) nor against the Russian people. In fact, based on the example of Russia in the last few years, it shows how people can accept evil things when it is done in small steps, and at each step, people just need to accept a little bit of evil in order not to lose a little bit of their income/safety/comfort. I bet, the same thing happened with Germany in 1930s. I am afraid, it can happen in any country, even in Canada. Watch it, it is not boring, it is actually funny at times, but mostly sad. It is a better way to spend 90 minutes than posting in "War with Iran" or "Carney gets the majority without new elections" or "I hate Israel" threads.

Not having watched the film I can still tell it is likely more entertaining to
watch an award-winning film than posting to Terb.

That being said you also have to understand Putin's invasion of Ukraine
is a rather insignificant global event by comparison to the war with Iran.
And as far as our interest as Canadians are concerned it is nowhere
nearly as consequential as Carney getting the majority. For me the only
important aspect of the Ukraine war is whether Carney will continue
sending billions of our hard earned cash to Zelensky like Trudeau did.
Hopefully he will not and the war will be ended by Trump and forgotten.

An one-year-old award winning film can be watched online for free??!! That
is amazing. The film must be either a money loser or it was subsidized by
some filthy rich movie producer.

No, you cannot watch it for free on regular websites, but it is available on "pirate" websites (e.g.,
) , as any movie that was streamed somewhere and most that was at least shown in a cinema (a.k.a. "screen copy). Or for a small fee on streaming services like Apple or Amazon. It is a documentary shot secretly by one person, so, cannot be a money loser as almost no money went into making it. And it is more about ordinary people, not politics. It is really worth watching.

P.S.: It also relates to the statement that " And as far as our interest as Canadians are concerned it is nowhere nearly as consequential as Carney getting the majority. For me the only important aspect of the Ukraine war is whether Carney will continue sending billions of our hard earned cash to Zelensky like Trudeau did", i.e., how in a choice between accepting a small evil and not losing a small amount of personal comfort, people prefer not to lose their comfort, and then they face that choice again and again and again until that small evil accumulates into a huge evil, step by step. Like Canadians who are more worried about not spending money to fight the evil that is not near Canada yet. Just step by step. Small steps make us all accomplices of greater evil.

So you admit to being a self-centred greedy unprincipled character who makes noise pretending to care about what's right and wrong. Yet it all just comes down to a pipsqueak country like Canada sending (borrowed) money that will never be repaid? And won't be reflecting in significant change of your lifestyle. (I doubt from your personality you have any offspring)

YOU find it more entertaining to SPEW regurgitated bilious untrustworthy biased pr0Russian and anti-Western propaganda than to watch a 90 minute film that is intended to give some insight into the human side of living in Russia and how it affects the world we live in?

Yup.... confirmed you are a true Russian. You already know you are brainwashed and don't need to be reminded of it.

I've been meaning to watch it since it came out. But since it won the Oscar I am more interested to actually sit down for 90 minutes to watch it. Going to go watch it with family members from the old country to watch it together.

Not sure if you speak Russian, but the movie did lose a bit in translation. Hope it is not much of a spoiler, but the change in repertoire of the children's choir is hard to understand without living in the Soviet Union. The scenery is also very real. I was really touched by how truthfully it represents reality without putting at risk people who remained in Russia (i.e., everyone except the author). Even the local "bad guy" is shown the way he really is, with his good sides and feelings, and not as a one-sided caricature. And, honestly, many people can relate to that "bad guy" and would behave and feel like him under the circumstances.

No, neither speak Russian nor lived there in Soviet times. But many of my late family members and their children who did live in the Baltics pre, during, and post-soviet times have given me some insight.

I'm looking forward to watching it. Most foreign films lose something in the translation.
