I wouldn't necessarily say that's the reason. The bottom 4 teams in the entire league are in the West as well so plenty of points to accumulate from them for the top teams in the Pacific. So the West is top and bottom heavy whereas the East is mostly middling.

The Leafs are 0.75 pts percentage their last 2 games. Fortunately for them the teams near and below them are also winning for the most part. They have 3 more OT losses to take according to plan. They played inspired against Buffalo but lacked the manpower.

As far as I am aware, those report would only be required if the Leafs (or any team) wanted to place a player on LTIR, which has certain cap benefits.

There really is no benefits to the Leafs right now of placing anybody on LTIR as they have the cap room. So I doubt anyone is placed on LTIR.

The Leafs are 2-0-1 since Matthews went down in period 2 of the game vs. the Ducks. Not good for the Tank.

They actually look like they know how to defend. If they play like this there's no way they get bottom 5.
Their PK is 3rd best in the league. They've used up both their wins and they have 14 games left.
Highly unlikely they lose their last 14 games straight. They need to go 0.107 pts percentage rest of the way.

Some players are playing for pride, while some are playing for jobs next season, and players like Bo Groulx are playing for a spot on the Leafs next season, so I think the tank is off.

The gouda may have inadvertently killed the Leafs tank aspirations. Left alone they could have just sailed into the sunset undisturbed. They are playing with much more focus, purpose and determination and they don't have what Roy, McMann, Laughton, and Matthews were providing.

That cup in the HHOF in Toronto is the replica. Then there's the original old one donated by Lord Stanley from the late 1800s, which is permanently on display at the HHOF in Toronto. The current real modern Stanley Cup travels around a lot, as we know, during the off-season, each player and coach from the cup winners get one day with it, and it is under security with the keepers of the cup.
