Maybe I am wrong, but Alberta isn't going anywhere.
That remains to be seen
I would not bet against it
The precedent had been established by Quebec.
Use the threat of secession to get a better and in this case more fair arrangement with Ottawa.
There will not be a fair arrangement with Ottawa for Alberta under a Liberal Government

That would be a 180 from the liberal globalist ideology
They want to decarbonize/ de industrialize Canada... no matter what it costs, or who it hurts
the unity and long term viability of Canada as a sovereign nation be damned. They think they are saving the planet
irrational fools do not make rational balanced decisions

I think the issues run deeper than that.
A cost of living crisis is pretty much on the surface and in your face if you are one of the 10 million people in Canada living with food insecurity
Canadians need to be able to afford to feed their families

Milk for growing children is not a discretionary item

AI Overview
Milk is generally more expensive in Canada than in the US
often costing 20–40% more due to a supply management system that limits production to stabilize prices.
Wow a 20-40% margin skim for the Milk cartel
Hey , that's kind of funny
Tony Accardo invented the Los Vegas Casino skim, making massive mob/ cartel profits
The Dairy Framers take a skim off the whole milk and become very powerful politically

AI Overview
While not a private cartel in the illegal sense, Quebec's dairy farmers operate within Canada's government-sanctioned supply management system, which functions as a state-managed cartel. This system limits competition and sets prices, fitting the dictionary definition of a cartel as a combination of enterprises designed to limit competition or fix price.
This may be all Quebec farming however it is revelling
Top Producer Market Concentration:
In 2021, farms with $1 million and over in revenue made up 9.9% of all farms in Quebec but accounted for approximately 62.5% of all farm operating revenues.

this is the infuriating part

AI Overview
Between 6.8 billion and 10 billion litres
of milk were discarded on Canadian dairy farms between 2012 and 2024. This waste, driven by supply management quotas, represents roughly 7% of total milk production over that period. The dumped milk is valued at up to $14.9 billion CAD, enough to feed 4.2 million people annually
We have 10 million people suffering from Food insecurity and we dump billions of litres of Milk down the drain to enrich a small special interest group.

That defines insanity

no
Trumps thing is leverage , not restricting compition
he sees >100% tarfiifs on US Dairy and concludes this is not free trade, it is restricting competition for US Dairy

Canada is the ''food inflation capital of the G7"

Yet Canada maintains supply management insanity to enrich the politically connected Quebec Dairy cartel
we should have needed to be bullied into correcting policy which is hurting ten million Canadians for the benefit of very wealthy special interest groups

time to wake up
He, as in the owner of the bridge. He wanted no competition. Trump recieved donations to interfere.

You're probably in a lower tax bracket then. If you make $150K a year in Ontario you're paying 34.4% tax/CPP/EI. And for each additional dollar you earn you're paying 43.4% of it in tax. That is burdensome.
Yes, I'm within the 90-95% of Canadians. And if you include income splitting in the mix, even higher in percentage for households.

He, as in the owner of the bridge. He wanted no competition. Trump recieved donations to interfere.
That false argument would require Trump to permanently prevent the Gordie Howe bridge from operating
and that is not going to happen

no
this once again, is trump using leverage to rattle Canadians
He wants revenue from the new bridge ahead of the agreed schedule and he wants to beat us up before CUSMA negotiations
its not welcome and he is an asshole for screwing with Canadians
but it is not to limit competition for the overly congested Ambassador Bridge
The political and economic cost would be too high for him to permanently prevent the new bridge from operating

it is leverage for CUSMA

leverage >>> being a prick with a purpose
something he has done all his life

odd how you steered completely clear of the real issue in that post, supply management

now if you want to talk about ""received donations to interfere" Quebec Dairy Farmers have a very influential lobby and we have a food inflation / food security crisis in Canada
that is a serous domestic problem that needs to be addressed and quickly

You really are obsessed over dairy farmers. I just don't get it. Why would you want US made dairy with there weak assed safety regulations filled with hormones? And at the same time hurt our supply chain?

because we have a food inflation and food security problem

AI Overview
Canada is facing a severe food insecurity crisis, with
roughly 25% of Canadians—about 10 million people—living in food-insecure households as of 2024, a significant rise from previous years. Driven by high inflation, skyrocketing housing costs, and inadequate income, the crisis has pushed emergency food services to record demand, with 2.1 to 2.5 million children in affected households.

Even you should be able to figure out that 25% of our citizens living with food insecurity is unacceptable , particularly when they are overpaying to enrich a politically active special interest group
Milk for growing children is not discretionary

Consumers are able to choose brands and read labels

AI Overview
Yes, Canada requires strict food labelling, regulated by the Agence canadienne d\'inspection des aliments (CFIA), ensuring all prepackaged food carries accurate information. Labels must be bilingual (English/French), accurate, not misleading, and include a product identity, net quantity, dealer name,
ingredient list, and a Nutrition Facts table.
if Canadian consumers decide to buy Canadian Milk, at premium prices in an open market, that is their choice.

nobody wants you or to decide for them
Central managed economies do not work

It's dumbfounding that the left can look at the levels of food insecurity, homelessness and inflation and feel like things are ok. That's the equivalent of having all of your engine lights on and smoke billowing from the hood of your can as you decide to drive across the country. 🤦‍♂️ How, how can they be so obtuse?

The food producers in the USA added chalk and water to milk before. Now they add chemical after chemical.

Food restrictions are common throughout the world. Europe has high standards that ban lots of items. Nations like China, India and Japan have foreign restrictions on items and volume to protect local suppliers.

It's about national security. Look at the Gulf nations right now who import 90% of their food and what closing the straight is doing. I want my food supply protected, and a healthy local farming industry to be protected at all cost. And I want regulations that protect consumers from bad products.

Considering the deregulation and who is in charge of food quality in the USA at the moment, fuck them and their shitty food.

You're right, kids starving is better to send a message to the bad orange man, this will learn him. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.🤦‍♂️
Considering what the embargo to Cuba, the Genicide to Gaza, and now the Iran war is doing to children, do you think the USA gives a rat's ass? They happily poisoned their own children.

Also, are you sure you want to discuss food insecurity and food prices in the USA? That's not an argument you can win unless you are discussing highly processed, sugar , salt and chemical filled products.

somehow Milk has not killed the USA off

you can not come down from your high horse long enough to recognise this is a huge problem ?

They have to import food because
They are farming in the desert.
They are too busy fighting each other to farm effectively

Also who is going to close down Canada? it is the second biggest country in the world

Do you think Trump is going to cut off our food supply and lay siege, Medieval style to Canada?

I want my food supply protected,
So Let me understand this. ....................................You need protection so you turn to a cartel ????
Did they give you an offer you cant refuse?
Did Rocko and Moose convince you?

and a healthy local farming industry to be protected at all cost
.

So healthy they pour Billions of litres down the drain and are able to buy politicians ?

protected at all cost ?
No not at the cost of corruption

and most defiantly not at the cost of 25% of the population living with food insecurity while Billions of liters of Milk are poured down the drain. That is insanity and it is incredible self destructive for a country

And I want regulations that protect consumers from bad products.

Hello, to protect their suppliers and don't pretend the same nonsense is not occurring there

Nobody will tell you that you can not buy Canadian Milk
If you wish to pay a premium you can drink Canadian Milk until the cows come home
There is lots of it available >>>>> billions of litres going down the drain

Considering the deregulation and who is in charge of food quality in the USA at the moment, fuck them and their shitty food.
You do understand that in reality Your "fuck them" is really to the 1/4 of your countrymen going hungry, and the kids that off to school on an empty stomach ?
What is wrong with you?

Your Trump Derangement Syndrome has gone off the scale if you would see your countrymen starve so you can poke Trump in the eye

You are being ridiculous, paranoid and most likely disingenuous all at the same time

if you are scared to death of US Moo Juice , you will be horrified by this little gem of reality

AI Overview
Yes, Health Canada increasingly relies on FDA decisions and other foreign regulators to speed up approvals and reduce "red tape"
Health Canada is a branch plant of the FDA

and then this should relive your paranoia

AI Overview
More than 12,000
highly qualified scientists work at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the safety and effectiveness of foods, medicines, medical devices, and other products. These scientists, researchers, and technical experts represent a significant portion of the agency's total workforce

You are trying to use a left wing argument to to prove a right wing point. And failing. That is what is happening.
Food Insecurity is not a partisan problem, an empty stomach does not ask who you vote for

The thing is, the inflation that has created this crisis was created by the loonie lefts money printing

you were presented with a jaw dropping problem your lot created
your response::
not a hint of concern for the millions of Canadian impacted
not a hint of a solution
but you did provided plenty of pathetic excuses to maintain the status quo

your lot created this nightmare and your solution is to........ignore it
Something is very wrong

The loonie left use to harp on about the social safety net is worth the high taxation burdens endured by Canadians
Yet when the most basic safety net there is: food affordability becomes a crisis, they scramble to protect the wasteful bureaucracy that is enriching a special interest group
