Scammers are defrauding thousands of people, wiping out life savings. They are very convincing, using sophisticated techniques. AI will make things worse.
The elderly are especially vulnerable.
People are the weakest link in anything security related. Social engineering is the easiest way to get around measures put in place. I cannot tell you the number of times in my years of red teaming we've trained people on how recognize social engineering attacks only to come back a year later and fool the same people with the same tactics and techniques we spent days or in some cases weeks training them on.I don’t get this.
Banks don’t call you. They put a lock on your card and wait for you to find out and call them.
Banks don’t send people to your house to pick up your cards.
Banks have apps and online banking, so why are people not on there checking activity while on the phone.
Apps and online banking have the power to lock cards on the user end, so why not do that if you are concerned.
Banks have limits on withdrawals and EMT on a weekly and daily basis so why are limits not set to a lower number.
How are banks responsible for stopping scammers from taking money out of your account when you have given them your physical cards???? Like how is the bank supoose to know?
I feel bad for these people; I do but at the same time, it is hard to understand how what seems like reasonable woman, not seniors, fell for something like this.
They have easier ways of getting paid, like having a real job, that pays them in fungible currency and not Apple gift cardsI take the guilty until proven innocent approach to any calls I don't recognize. If I get a scam call and I am not busy I play along for as long as possible and act dumb while they try and convince me of what ever ploy they are attempting and once the jig is up I swear at them with the few Punjabi words I know.Has anyone ever gotten a scam call from someone with a German or Italian accent?

It seems like the more scams that are reported, the more society just seems to be getting dumber or lazier. No due diligence done on the victims part, 100% trust w/o any research or any questions. A lot of the scams are people thinking they'll make easy money and they get burned. A little less greed would go a long way.I don’t get this.
